There's a realy scary ad running on UK TV at the mo. It is a public info one about the need to fit smoke alarms in a house - Shows very atmospheric black and white shots of a graveyard with a tombstone inscribed with "Such and such a body - The landlord should have fitted one" - "Someone else - It wasn't my job" so on and so forth util it reaches the last name - which just says "Aged 3 months"

The song in the background is a realy good gospel type song done by a lady with a lovely voice. I dunno what it is. Has anyone else seen the ad who does know the song? (and possibly the singer?)

Apart from (or perhaps because of?) the rather somber message the ad is definitely one which should get some sort of award.

Cheers

Dave the Gnome

I've suddenly had a mental block as to the words, but I've noticed that ad too. The Johnson girls sang the song at Sidmouth, certainly, so I'm guessing it's a fairly well known American Sea shanty type thing. If Bob Conroy reads this he'll know what its called if you can remember any of the words.

I've seen the ad too, the song is "down to the river to pray", which is in "o brother where art thou", which should be available from your local video shop. Failing that Brittania music co had it on offer at about £18 (on DVD only)highly recommend watching this film, can't wait for my local shop to get fed up with it not renting and sell it off cheap (which I think blockbuster are already doing)

Haven't the faintest who sings the uk ad version, but she does a cracking job, hope this helps,

cheers

bill

I heard a tape once with Doc Watson singing it, unaccompanied. Stunning song.

'Sfunny you should mention this, Dave. I try and spend more time in church than watching telly, but I couldn't resist that Six Wives of Henry 8th (what would the Hollywood sequel be called?) prog last night, and saw said advert. Mrs Skipjack even asked who the singess was, so can I tell her it's Alison Krauss?

Actually, the advert *isn't* Alison Krauss, apparently. I've just listened to last week's Nick Barraclough programme (in the car, on tape, as is my custom) and he said so. And he'll know.

But Alison's must be better ('cos it's so good.) I don't know - 'cos I don't think my telly gets adverts.
