Hello again Jo, I thought you had disappeared into cyberspace & all our posts were in vain! Do follow up Joan's links to folk clubs; there are several good places to visit. If you are based in Southport then Liverpool isn't so handy, but if you can get into town Bold Street is a good area to visit. I thought the Walker Art Gallery was still open, but I may be wrong. The Lady Lever is a gallery based on the collection of Lord Leverhulme, the soap and margarine magnate; mainly British Art of late 19th C including Holman Hunt's Scapegoat plus other PRB stuff. thanks everyone for that info, im sorry its taken me this long to acknowledge - its a result of a stupidly busy life,
which is also why i dont dare join up! :)
i am currently staying in southport, so particularly interested to hear about the bothy
the liverpool art gallery is sadly closed at the moment
depriving me of my pre-raphaelite dose
what is at the lady lever?
shopping? second hand books, clothes, and interesting junk....

Welcome to Merseyside Jo. There are various folk clubs around, and some venues such as The Citadel in St Helens, Neptune Theatre in Liverpool, Pacific Road Theatre in Birkenhead, and a couple of places in Chester which feature folk music on occasion. There are many great pubs, far too many to list here. I don't know what kind of shops interest you (I tend to spend a lot of time, and money! in bookshops - other shops don't keep my attention for more than 5 minutes). However some of my female friends are expert shoppers, and I can ask for their advice. DO visit the museums and galleries in Liverpool; the Maritime Museum in Albert Dock is well worth a few hours or days of your time. If you have time I would love to show you round my local Art Gallery: the Lady Lever in Port Sunlight. Hi jo, At the end of the local train line lies Southport, where on Sunday nights, one of the oldest clubs around, the Bothy Folk Club meets. The Blundell Arms, Upper Aughton Rd, Birkdale, 5-10 mins walk from Birkdale station. Next week Sept 16th Singers night, the week after the guests are Pint and Dale. I believe 'Ye Crack', that ancient and wonderful musical pub is still going strong in the back streets of Liverpool, but I'm blowed if I can remember where it is. Ten years since I lived in Liverpool, so I'm not much help I'm afraid as to venues; but there is a lot of music of many varieties going on.

for my work, i am going to be spending some days each week for the next couple of months in liverpool.
i don't know the place, and have no friends there;
so i was wondering, do any of you folks have suggestions about where i should go?
are there any folk clubs, shops full of interesting bits and pieces,
any pubs with a good atmosphere, or other random recommendations?
