Subject: RE: anyone in liverpool? From: Paulboy Date: 25 Sep 01 - 06:32 PM From Pete Rimmer Without doubt you should come to the world famous Bothy Folk Club in Soutport 15 milesfrom Liverpool. Its on the main train line and you would be foolish not to go. The club meets on Sunday nights at The Blundell Arms In Birkdale Southport. Last weeks guests were Pint and Dale from USA. Email me on pete@rimmer6fsnet.co.uk if you want to get in touch. Look at the Bothy Webb site www.bothyfolkclub.8m.com Looking forward to seeing you |
Subject: RE: anyone in liverpool? From: Matthew Edwards Date: 25 Sep 01 - 05:14 PM Hello again Jo, I thought you had disappeared into cyberspace & all our posts were in vain! Do follow up Joan's links to folk clubs; there are several good places to visit. If you are based in Southport then Liverpool isn't so handy, but if you can get into town Bold Street is a good area to visit. I thought the Walker Art Gallery was still open, but I may be wrong. The Lady Lever is a gallery based on the collection of Lord Leverhulme, the soap and margarine magnate; mainly British Art of late 19th C including Holman Hunt's Scapegoat plus other PRB stuff. Also lots of Wedgewood and some fantastic Chinese ceramics. Email me at Mrwedwards@aol.com |

Email me on joanblackburn@btinternet.com for a sample copy. Joan |

Subject: RE: anyone in liverpool? From: Matthew Edwards Date: 10 Sep 01 - 07:07 PM Welcome to Merseyside Jo. There are various folk clubs around, and some venues such as The Citadel in St Helens, Neptune Theatre in Liverpool, Pacific Road Theatre in Birkenhead, and a couple of places in Chester which feature folk music on occasion. There are many great pubs, far too many to list here. I don't know what kind of shops interest you (I tend to spend a lot of time, and money! in bookshops - other shops don't keep my attention for more than 5 minutes). However some of my female friends are expert shoppers, and I can ask for their advice. DO visit the museums and galleries in Liverpool; the Maritime Museum in Albert Dock is well worth a few hours or days of your time. If you have time I would love to show you round my local Art Gallery: the Lady Lever in Port Sunlight. As you are posting as a Guest I assume you can't PM me, so join up to Mudcat and I'll happily send more info. |

Subject: RE: anyone in liverpool? From: Noreen Date: 10 Sep 01 - 04:31 PM Ye Cracke, Rice Street mentioned on this pub crawl... worth seeking out. Beatles connections too- John Lennon painted the murals. Noreen |
Subject: RE: anyone in liverpool? From: Noreen Date: 10 Sep 01 - 03:09 PM Joan from Wigan may help, too, Bob! I believe 'Ye Crack', that ancient and wonderful musical pub is still going strong in the back streets of Liverpool, but I'm blowed if I can remember where it is. Ten years since I lived in Liverpool, so I'm not much help I'm afraid as to venues; but there is a lot of music of many varieties going on. Noreen |
Subject: RE: anyone in liverpool? From: 8_Pints Date: 10 Sep 01 - 12:23 PM Hi Jo Perhaps "Joan from Warrington" is closest to you. If not you can always pop over to Manchester for our regular Wednesday traditional singers' session at the Ducie. Bob vG |
