Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: DEAR OKIE
From: martoons

Trying to get my life back to normal, I've been listening to some old favorites and noodling with the guitar. While listening to a New Lost City Ramblers CD I came across Dear Okie. I have transcribed the lyrics, but am having difficulty trying to get the chords in place. My patience isn't very high at the moment and I was wondering if anyone out there had this already figured out. I'm so confused.

Maybe something like this:

C A
Dear Okie if you see Arkie
D G
Tell him Tex is got a job for him out in Californy
C
Pickin up brooms
G
Squeezin oil out of olives

Dear Okie if you see Arkie
Tell him Tex is got a job for him out in Californy
Rakin up the gold
Playin fiddle in the Follies

Now he'll be lucky if he finds a place to live
But there's orange juice fountains flowin for those kids of his.

Dear Okie if you see Arkie
Tell him Tex is got a job for him out in Californy
Diggin oil wells
All he needs is a shovel

Instrumental break

Dear Okie if you see Arkie
Tell him Tex is got a job for him out in Californy
Sellin used cars
Just a-waitin for the suckers

Dear Okie if you see Arkie
Tell him Tex is got a job for him out in Californy
Just a workin in a bank
All he needs is some money

Now he'll be lucky if he finds a place to live
But there's orange juice fountains flowin for those kids of his.

Dear Okie if you see Arkie
Tell him Tex is got a job for him out in Californy
Pickin up brooms
Squeezin oil out of olives

Several sets of lyrics were posted in this thread, but no chords. Gene or Dale Rose may have them.

It is not "picking up brooms" it is "picking up PRUNES". brooms makes no sense but prunes are picked by picking them off the ground.

An old prune picker
