Subject: Help! Looking for... From: elektra@gate.net Date: 01 Feb 98 - 07:32 PM I am looking for a copy of the record made by an American band called "The Reprobates" circa 1975. They only made the one album together, I believe -- and I am fairly sure they were based in the Newport, RI area. I am also interested in music by any of the members, including Walter McDonough, Tim Mulcahy, Jim McGrath, Jim Bennett and Tony Morrison. I have tried MANY music searches, and have (unsurprisingly) had no luck as they are rather obscure, were never on a major label, and have never been reissued that I know of. Any info, as always, greatly appreciated! Thank you!!! |

Subject: RE: Looking for... From: Barry Date: 01 Feb 98 - 07:42 PM I remember they played at Mystic Seaport Festival, had to be late 70's, early 80's I think, maybe an e-mail to them may help. The store at Mystic usually carries recordings of past performers. They did the best version of Blow The Man Down & The Dolphin that I've ever heard. Good Luck. Barry |

Subject: RE: Looking for... From: Elektra Date: 02 Feb 98 - 11:47 AM Barry -- They must have made quite an impression on you for you to have remembered them after so long! Please let me know the name of the store in Mystic that you mentioned, if you can -- I would love to call them and find out!! Walter is a friend of mine; he plays at a local pub here most of the year and is the source of most of my (folk) tunes. Tony Morrison (A *damn* fine fiddler player, among other things) was here visiting last year and they played a few sets together. WOW!! Abso-friggin-lutely amazing!! Thanks again! =^)
P.S. Sorry for all the !!'s. I'm just so EXCITED to know that they are still remembered!! |

Subject: RE: Looking for... From: Barry Date: 02 Feb 98 - 02:05 PM Elektra, they made quite an impression, I sing both of those songs, got em from them ( although, they don't know it), would've remember where I got them from if this hadn't reminded me of them. The store is actually the Museum Store at the seaport, they have a web site but I don't know how to do that stuff that sends you there. You might also want to talk to one of the older shanty singers from Mystic, they might remember & still know of their where abouts. Barry |

Subject: RE: Looking for... From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Feb 98 - 03:22 AM I dunno, Barry. Maybe it's unwise to post a link because it might end up being expensive for some of us, but here it is: Mystic Seaport. Have fun, everyone! -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Looking for... From: Bert Date: 03 Feb 98 - 09:28 AM Joe, You are thoroughly rotten ;-) I browsed the Mystic site and I want to go on the boatbuilding course. But I don't think I can afford it this year. So I am going to lie on the floor and kick and scream. |

Subject: RE: Looking for... From: Elektra Date: 03 Feb 98 - 04:48 PM Well, I called the store, but they didn't have anything in stock. Interestingly though, they were at least familiar with the band! They'll (crossed fingers) email me if they get anything in. Thanks for the tips! :)
