Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: Joe Offer Date: 15 Sep 01 - 10:56 PM I don't know about the rest of the world, but you can watch "Wheel of Fortune" here in Sacramento. Has Vanna put on weight? -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: CarolC Date: 15 Sep 01 - 10:39 PM Watching a special hour long 'Red Green' here. If Ranger Gord makes me laugh, I'll know it's a good sign. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: catspaw49 Date: 15 Sep 01 - 10:14 PM Hey! If you get Speedvision then tonite could be your nite!!!! If you're a James Taylor fan you oughta' be in hog heaven and if you collect "Worst Movies" then you'll be positively orgasmic! On Lost Drive-In starting at 11 PM Eastern, is the oft mentioned on Mudcat, "TWO LANE BLACKTOP".........you'll love it.......it really sucks bad.........The dialogue between a dead "Beach Boy" and a catatonic James Taylor is aw inspiring......as in "Aw shit, this is awful!" Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: CarolC Date: 14 Sep 01 - 06:57 PM No, RangerSteve, I can't. I know because I've tried. We are all experiencing this in our own way. And that's ok. Also, on the subject of the news (I've seen this brought up by several people who live outside the US). Most of what I'm seeing (and I'm pretty much glued to my television all the time), is not a rehashing of what happened on Tuesday. Mostly it's a discussion about what we need to do, what we know now, and what we're doing to find out what we need to know. For anyone who lives outside the US, please understand that Tuesday was not the end of the attack. We are still under attack. Watching the news is the only way for some of us to get any kind of reassurance that we, as a nation, are carrying on and doing what needs to be done. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: Dicho (Frank Staplin) Date: 14 Sep 01 - 11:15 AM We are now over 100 channels on cable here now and the only things worth watching are reruns of British mystery and comedy shows and some old Jackie Gleason. If you do have to watch the WTC reporting, WPIX New York is doing a good job; they are on cable here in Canada. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: Bat Goddess Date: 14 Sep 01 - 11:13 AM McPiper -- 'Mudge and I have owned a copy of "Matewan" since it came out and watch it frequently. We also recommended it often when we owned our "gourmet" video rental business in Portsmouth, NH. John Sayles is one of our favorite directors. I haven't watched television since 1983 -- not for any political reason; it just doesn't fit into our schedule. (Discovered that in the middle of watching "Brideshead Revisited" on Masterpiece Theatre -- kept missing a middle episode. Didn't see the whole thing until last year when my sister gave me the videotapes.) Also, without cable, reception in our area is limited. But even now that cable is available, TV just doesn't fit in. If I really need to see something, I'll ask a friend to tape it so we can watch it when we want to watch it. Tuesday all our news came via 4 websites (Mudcat a major source), the radio, and telephone. Saw plenty of stills, though, but didn't see any TV images/coverage until yesterday at a friend's. Music does help. bat Goddess |

Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: Walking Eagle Date: 14 Sep 01 - 10:50 AM I'm working on some Christmas projects, practicing my singing lessons and reading my favorite book when I need a real break from reality - - The Wind in the Willows. You UK 'catter 'critters can be real proud of Kenneth Grahaem. Some how, sensible animals make more sense to me now than all of this maddness. You gals, a little eye candy for movies helps too. Robert Redford in The Horse Whisperer and Tom Cruise in Rainman and Jerry McGuire are nice to watch. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: RangerSteve Date: 14 Sep 01 - 10:32 AM After slamming Sophocleese in an earlier thread and being reprimended by Sorcha, I promised to find something nice to say about Soph. Okay, here it is. Soph's first entry here makes the most sense. Play some music. For those who said they just can't play anything right now, of course you can. Play one of those Scottish laments and dedicate it to the victims. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: GUEST,mcpiper(cookieless) Date: 14 Sep 01 - 08:21 AM Hi CarolC, one of my wishes is to visit places like that, along with whats left of Route 66 and other sort of forgotten places. I would love to go to one of Dwight Diller's banjo camps and visit places around that area, how about where they filmed Deliverence, is there really a place like that. That movie would have to be the spookiest of all time. cheers |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: CarolC Date: 14 Sep 01 - 07:11 AM mcpiper, I've been in the little ghost town where they filmed Matewan. It's right here in West Virginia. Pretty much nobody lives there now, and you have to walk across a railroad bridge to get to it. It's kind of spooky. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: DonMeixner Date: 14 Sep 01 - 07:10 AM When I want a uplifting film to watch its almost always The Fisher King, Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges. Don |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: GUEST,mcpiper(cookieless) Date: 14 Sep 01 - 07:04 AM Hey Amergin, you must be the only other person in the universe to have watched Matewan apart from me. I have never met anyone who knows of the movie. Might be because we are in NZ, but I really liked the movie,in fact have rented it a couple of times. If it's any consolation, we have had the WTC disaster one channel or another 24hrs a day. In spite of the tragedy I can't help feeling some news reports are verging on voyerism. Cheers. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: CarolC Date: 14 Sep 01 - 03:31 AM I can't play music right now. I tried to watch something other than the news on television, but I couldn't do it. I had to go back to the news. I find that tranquilizers work pretty good some of the time. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: Llanfair Date: 14 Sep 01 - 03:17 AM Liz!!!!!!!You missed the bit where Spike kissed Buffy and told her he loved her???? Classic episode!!!!! Cheers, Bron. And yes, we do get some good stuff on Welsh telly!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: DougR Date: 14 Sep 01 - 01:30 AM Hey, Spaw! Now I know why we differ so often on political threads! I watch CNN sometimes too, but I like the Fox News Channel better because you get both sides of the story! Well, maybe that's not the only reason I guess. :>) DougR |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: Liz the Squeak Date: 14 Sep 01 - 01:21 AM I haven't watched television since Tuesday evening - except for Buffy the Vampire slayer last night, and even then I missed the very end of it..... I've not put the radio on other than the 1 hour alarm. I have read a book though - four times! There is only so much anyone can take of this saturation news coverage without being ghoulish. And I don't want to be a ghoul who can't say no. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: sophocleese Date: 13 Sep 01 - 11:09 PM St. John's Wort? Its what I use for those times when I'm so frazzled and worn I can't even rest properly. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: Sorcha Date: 13 Sep 01 - 10:54 PM I rented movies. I washed the dishes. I cleaned my house. I scrubbed my toilet. Can't concentrate enough to read. Had a hot bubble bath. I tried to play the fiddle and couldn't. I am watching SciFi channel. Good escape venue even if I don't understand it. Can't stand Disney just now, all cartoons. May rent Spaw's movie tomorrow.....sounds like just the "garbage for the mind" that I need.........back to SciFi Channel. Better than CNN et al. |

Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: GUEST Date: 13 Sep 01 - 10:24 PM Saturday Night Live is playing on Comedy Central, and TV Land is always good. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: Little Hawk Date: 13 Sep 01 - 10:23 PM Geez, Spaw, that sounds like one Godawful bad movie...careful...you gonna rot your mind! Sophocleese, as usual, is the voice of reason. I think I'll go play the guitar or work on my William S**tner impressions. :-) - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: wysiwyg Date: 13 Sep 01 - 10:18 PM What movie would you like to watch? Rent it. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: sophocleese Date: 13 Sep 01 - 09:58 PM Why not turn the set off and do something like play music, wash dishes, read a good book or have a hot bath with the dishes while reading a good book and playing tin whistle. Nobody says you have to have the television on. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: Amergin Date: 13 Sep 01 - 09:42 PM Hey, Spaw...that is one of my favourites! Maybe tomorrow I'll watch Matewan....or Flash Gordon.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: catspaw49 Date: 13 Sep 01 - 09:40 PM Personally, I'm having a two hour break watching "Where the Buffalo Roam"......a one star movie with Bill Murray as Hunter Thompson......And it may be bad, but I just love this turkey.....always gets me!!!! And....Neil Young did the music........perfect! And then I suppose I'll go check in at CNN again.......... Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Maybe I can find something on TV From: Jeri Date: 13 Sep 01 - 09:34 PM Try the Sci Fi channel. Maybe Disney. |
Subject: Maybe I can find something on TV From: Sorcha Date: 13 Sep 01 - 09:28 PM .........that doesn't have to do with WTC. Last night, even Discovery Channel was full of it......... |
