Subject: RE: Three minutes silence in Cardiff From: Ella who is Sooze Date: 14 Sep 01 - 06:20 AM I did think that maybe it would only be a small gathering of people. But no... At 10.50 people had started to gather around the Temple of Peace, in Alexandra Gardens, Cathays Park, in Cardiff. A circular pillared monument with central sculpture, deadicated to peace and rememberance, set in beautiful gardens. Hundreds of my co-workers were there, also other workers from Lawyers from the City Court House, Police, Students from Cardiff University, Government workers, Museum staff, and people from all over the city, all gathered in a sweeping circle around the monument. At 11am precisely, the muted City Hall bell tomed 11 rings, all fell silent, all heads tilted down in remberance and silent prayers. All nationalities gathered together to express their sorrow in silence during the 3 minutes. All most complete silence, except for city traffic in the background, and on an exceptionally clear and hot day for September, a cool breeze blew about our feet. All I want to say... Ella

Subject: RE: Three minutes silence in Cardiff From: CarolC Date: 14 Sep 01 - 06:25 AM I just watched some of Europe's three minutes of silence on television here in the US. It was very heartening to see. Thank you, Ella, and everyone else who participated. |

Subject: RE: Three minutes silence in Cardiff From: Peg Date: 15 Sep 01 - 09:39 AM Thank you so much for sharing this, Ella and Gareth. I have been to several parts of Wales, north and south, and it is a gorgeous, magical country. I have been so moved watching the shows of support, of grief and solidarity, from our European friends...I think I fully cried for the first time last night (other then the random bursts all week) watching the moments of silence on teh news, in so many different countries and cities, from Paris, France to Rome, Italy to Britain to Sarajevo. Sarajevo!
