I'm wondering if our song lists for 9-11 candlelight vigils would be different now than back in 2001.

There's no place on this earth that I'll belong when I'm gone..by Phil Ochs.

Remember me when the candlelight is gleaming..

I know that this may seem a wee bit late, but with all the mass funerals about to take place may I on the other side of the pond suggest that folks listen to a beautiful song from the Incredible String Band entitled 'The October Song' 'cos if you listen to the lyrics they may be of some solace to all. Yours in peace Peter

There's an old Elton John/Bernie Taupin song that ended:

There's a man over there
What's his colour? I don't care
He's my brother
Let us live in peace

I don't even remember what it's called, but it seems an appropriate sentiment.

Kath, that song's been on my mind for the past 3 days! I too am leading the songs at a vigil tonight. We'll sing:
(I've got) Peace like a river
Amazing Grace
This little light of mine (maybe)
Let there be peace on earth (I don't care for the song, but this is a very general gathering and many will find it meaningful)
We shall overcome

Blessings on all of our community gatherings and private rituals.

Turn, Turn, Turn

Peace I ask of thee O River

Take me back to Manhattan (yes, Cole Porter's, but suddenly the tune is sweet and the words poignant)

The Battle Hymn of the Republic (don't flame me please, it might not be right for everybody but it is stirring and comforting to most--just a thought)

Subject: Lyr Add: THANKSGIVING EVE (Bob Franke)
From: KathWestra
Date: 14 Sep 01 - 03:54 PM

Bob Franke's Thanksgiving Eve (in the DT). "Sorrows enough for the whole world's end" describes this week to me -- and the chorus articulates my belief about what we each must do. I'll be with you in spirit. Kathy

THANKSGIVING EVE (c)1982, Robert J. Franke
Published by Telephone Pole Music Publishing Co. (BMI)

It's so easy to dream of the days gone by,
It's a hard thing to think of the times to come,
But the grace to accept every moment as a gift,
Is a gift that is given to some.

CHORUS: What can you do with your days, but work and hope,
Let your dreams bind your work to your play.
What can you do with each moment of your life,
But love till you've loved it away,
Love till you've loved it away.

There are sorrows enough for the whole world's end,
There are no guarantees but the grave,
But the life that I live and the times that I spend,
Are a treasure too precious to save.

As it was, so it is, as it is shall it be,
And it shall be while lips that kiss have breath;
Many waters indeed only nurture Love's seed,
And its flower overshadows the power of death.

Listen, Listen, Listen
To My/Our Heart Song (repeat)
I/We will never forsake you
We will never forget you (repeat)

It is simple and makes a nice round.

Tonight we are having a Candelight Vigil in our neighborhood starting at 7:00 PM to honor the fallen and their families and pray for our future. Can anyone think of some songs that might be appropriate to sing ?

I have thought of two:

Last Night I had the Strangest Dream
Amazing Grace

Others?

JAB
