HELP! A friend from Germany was visiting, and asked me to help her find the lyrics to a song. The song contains the line "Angelina would you like to dance again".

I'm not certain, but i believe this is an old country and western, or folk song, since she is a square dancer, and heard this song during a square dance event.

any help would be appreciated!

Laura

The song is Angeline. Don't know off-hand who wrote it, but the only version I've ever heard recorded was by Ed Bruce.

I'm winging from memory here, but I think this is pretty close.

Here we are a-dancin' in a warm, cozy light
Two total strangers unknown
I'm not gonna as if you're married or not
I don't think it's necessary that I should know
I won't look at your finger, don't you look at mine
We'll keep all the questions to ourselves
All we need to do is exchange our first names
Angeline, would you like to dance again?

CHORUS:
Angeline, would you like to dance again?
I may not be the best, but I'll be the best I can
I'd gladly change a dollar for the two-song quarter band
Angeline, would you like to dance again?

Here we are a-wakin' hours after dawn
Two total strangers yesterday
I'm still not gonna ask if you're married or not
It's too late to matter, anyway
I haven't looked at your finger, don't guess you've looked at mine
We've kept all the questions to ourselves
I'm not gonna ask your number, but I'm always there by 10
Angeline, would you like to dance again?

CHORUS

Won't guarantee that's it to the letter, but I think it's close. If somebody can pick up errors, please post corrections.

cheers,

david

Just rereading it and discovered the fourth line of verse 1 doesn't scan. Drop the word "that" and I think it's what Ed sang (and I did, years ago when I sang the song).

And another....

I think the first line should say "blue, cozy light."

Maybe I shudda just waited till I went home and looked it up....

THANK YOU ALL! I'll be able to get this printed out for my square dancing German friend before she leaves to go home this weekend.

I could become addicted to the world of the 'mudcat'!

Cheers!

Laura
