Lyrics: English Translation:

Sèist: Chorus (after each verse):
O 's fhada bhuainn Anna Oh far from us is Anna
He hoireann o, 'n i do leannan? He hoireann o, is she your sweetheart?
O 's fhada bhuainn Anna Oh far from us is Anna

Chuala mi gun d'dhiult thu'n t-armunn I heard that you refused the stalwart
Mac Fhir Bhearnaraidh na Hearadh Son of the Laird of Berneray in Harris

Chuala mi gun d' dhiult thu'n t-uasal I heard that you refused the noble
Le chruachan 's le thaighean geala With his stacks and his white houses

Gu de nist a bhios tu'g iarraidh Who, then, do you want
'S nach gabh thu iarla no baran? When you won't take earl nor baron?

Chuala mi gun dtug thu'n __ I heard that you __
__ na Hearadh __ Harris

Ma's e uaisle tha thu'g iarraidh If it's nobility you are after
Thoir ort Ciosamul am Barraigh Make for Kismul on Barra

Feumaidh tu bhith dha'n fhuil rioghail You have to be of royal blood
Mu faigh thu MacNeill a Barraigh In order to get Mac Neil of Barra

Feumaidh tu bhith dhan fhuil uasail You must be of noble blood
Mu faigh thu Ruairidh mar leannan To win Rory as your loved one

Haven't found the CD yet. I must have loaned it out to someone.

Puh-leeeze, George (eyes shut and fingers crossed again)....any luck? I really want the last few words to this song and I'm drawing a total blank with all my normal search methods (and my Gaelic's still not good enough to work it all out from the recording).
Here's another bit:

Mas e uaisle a tha thu ag iarraidh
Their ort cias a-nall am Barraigh,
O, 's fhada bhuainn Anna...
Feumaidh tu bhi (dhanuail?) rioghail,
Na faigh thu Mac Neill a Barraigh,
O, 's fhada bhuainn Anna...
Feumaidh tu bhi (dhanuail?) uasal
Na faigh thu Ruaraidh mo leannan,
O, 's fhada bhuainn Anna
E ho, rin ho ni do leannan
O, 's fhada bhuainn Anna.

Ruaridh! Oh I know his father, Roddie. I wonder if it is on Roddie's CD. Will look later.

Refreshing again given the recent flurry of activity on the Ba mo leanabh thread. Anyone know this one? It's on a solo cd by Rory Campbell, piper in Deaf Shepherd and Old Blind Dogs...

Fingers crossed! :-)

Thanks Sorcha I know that one 'Chi mi'n Geamhradh' but no not the one I'm looking for. I thought maybe I should put a bit of it up to see if it jogs anyone's memory:

O, s'fhada bhuainn Anna
e ho, rin ho ni do leannan
O, s'fhada bhuainn Anna
Chuala mi gun (thiult?) thu 'n t-armunn
Mac 'ic Bhearnaraigh na Hearadh
O, s'fhada...
Chuala mi gun (thiult) thu 'n t-uasal
a chruachan 's le (????)

Aaargh! it's driving me nuts not being able to work it out. Answers on a postcard please

All I could find containing "fhada/fada bhuainn" was a song called "I See Winter" and it did not have Anna in it. Sorry

I'm hoping someone out there knows of a good Scottish Gaelic song database which isn't an appendix to some wacko site about elves and Celtic mysticism (ack...) or can help me with the words to this song. I have a recording of it but can't work out a few bits (I'm only a learner!)
Beannachd leibh, H
