From: GUEST,Steven G.

The song is Danny's Song, which was written by Kenny Loggins, and was one of Anne Murray's Greatest hits.

Here is the lyrics and chords.

Steven G.

Danny's Song
(Loggins and Messina)

D D/C Bm
People smile and tell me I'm the lucky one
E A
And we've just begun, think I'm gonna have a son
D D/C Bm
He will be like she and me, as free as a dove
E A
Conceived in love, sun is gonna shine above

CHORUS:
G A
(And) even though we ain't got money
D D/C# Bm
I'm so in love with you honey
G A D D/C# Bm
Everything will bring a chain of love
G A
And in the morning when I rise
D D/C# C
Bring a tear of joy to my eyes
Bm E A
And tell me everything is gonna be all right

Seems as though a month ago I was down and tied
Never got high, oh I was a sorry guy
Now a smile, a face, a girl that shares my name
Now I'm through with the game, this boy will never be the same

CHORUS

Pisces Virgo rising is a very good sign
Strong and kind, and the little boy is mine
Now I see a family where there once was none
Now we've just begun, yeah, we're gonna fly to the sun
CHORUS

Love the girl who holds the world in a paper cup
Drink it up, love her and she'll bring you luck
And if you find she helps your mind, better take her home
Don't you live alone, try to learn what lover's own
CHORUS

Does Kenny really sing, "He will be like she and me ..."? And if he does, do you think he would mind if you sang it with correct grammar, "like her and me"?
I first heard the song from Anne Murray, and she, singing from the female perspective, sang "like him and me, so I never noticed the way Kenny sang it.
I have no objection to poetic license or colloquialisms, but when an error seems to reflect neither one, but just ignorance of the language, I find it hard to sing the song as written, without fixing it.
Another example from another song, with an error that was done for the sake of rhyme, is Neil Diamond's "Play Me," in which he penned, "Songs she sang to me, songs she brang to me ... " Does that really make it a better song than "songs she brought to me"? And does "like she and me" improve the lyric?
Folks will sing songs as they please, of course, and I ain't sayin' we oughta sing "I don't have anybody" as a blues line, but must we murder the language when it serves no poetic or other artistic purpose?

It's "Danny's" song because Kenny wrote it in honor of a nephew's birth (his brother being "Danny").

Thanks for bringing this thread up--I've spent the last few minutes playing around with it, first in D, as it is here, then in G (where Anne Murray did it), then in E, where both Kenny Loggins and Me Too and the Gimmee Gimmee's did it, though I presume that KL was playing in D with a capo on the second fret--It is a fun song, anyway--
