Subject: RE: Home To Mayo Lyrics From: GUEST,kathvesey Date: 24 Mar 14 - 03:46 PM Home To Mayo Lyrics In Bellmullet town, where I first saw the light Where the waves of the sea roared by day and by night I traveled long miles on land and on sea But a journey I'll make, and soon that will be Home to Mayo Home to Mayo Someone is waiting for me I know In the firelight, her smile will be bright And my hearts in the cottage in county Mayo I would love to go back to old Ireland once more to roam through the scenes as in days of your then surely this summer, please God I will go Back to my home in the county Mayo Home to Mayo Home to Mayo Someone is waiting for me I know In the firelight, her smile will be bright And my hearts in the cottage in the county Mayo |

Subject: RE: Mayo From: catspaw49 Date: 04 Oct 07 - 05:44 PM And here I thought this thread was about a condiment so I got y'all a really great mayonnaise recipe if you want to make it yourself cause you can't stand the store bought stuff. 1 egg (at room temp) 1 teaspoon dry mustard 1 teaspoon salt 1 1/4 cup oil (any type...corn, vegetable, canola-I like Canola best) dash cayenne pepper 3 tablespoons lemon juice or vinegar (I like it with vinegar better) Place egg, mustard, salt, cayenne pepper and 1/4 c. oil in blender and blend on low. While the machine is blending, SLOWLY pour in another 1/2 c. oil. You may have to stop and scrape down the mayo. Add the lemon juice/vinegar and the remaining 1/2 c. oil. Blend until well combined. Store in refrigerator, tightly covered. No need to say thanks! Spaw |

Subject: Lyr Add: TAKE ME HOME TO MAYO (Seamus Robinson) From: GUEST,seamusrobinson@lycos.com Date: 20 Jun 05 - 09:15 PM Vol. Michael Gaughan, IRA, died on hunger strike in a British prison at 7.20 pm on the 3rd of June, 1974. Belfastman Seamus Robinson aka S. McRobin wrote (words and music) "TAKE ME HOME TO MAYO" or "THE BALLAD OF MICHAEL GAUGHAN" to commemorate his sacrifice. The WOLFHOUND folk group of Belfast released the song on vinyl in July 1974. For more information on song and songwriter see Nicky Kelly's site www.theballadeers.com. I append the original lyrics -- the CHRISTY MOORE SONGBOOK bowdlerised version should be discarded. TAKE ME HOME TO MAYO by Seamus Robinson (Chorus) TAKE ME HOME TO MAYO, ACROSS THE IRISH SEA, HOME TO DEAR OLD MAYO WHERE ONCE I ROAMED SO FREE. TAKE ME HOME TO MAYO, THERE LET MY BODY LIE, HOME AT LAST IN MAYO 'NEATH AN IRISH SKY. 1. MY NAME IS MICHAEL GAUGHAN, FROM BALLINA I CAME; I SAW MY PEOPLE SUFFERING AND SWORE TO BREAK THEIR CHAINS. I RAISED THE FLAG IN ENGLAND, PREPARED TO FIGHT OR DIE, FAR AWAY FROM MAYO 'NEATH AN IRISH SKY. [REPEAT CHORUS] 2. MY BODY COLD AND HUNGRY, IN PARKHURST JAIL I LIE; FOR LOVING OF MY COUNTRY, ON HUNGER STRIKE I DIE. I HAVE JUST ONE LAST LONGING, I PRAY YOU'LL NOT DENY, BURY ME IN MAYO 'NEATH AN IRISH SKY. [REPEAT CHORUS] (C)1974 SEAMUS ROBINSON |

Subject: RE: Mayo From: JFog Date: 07 Feb 98 - 12:49 PM Hi Wolfgang - Yes, please post the IRA version! Thanks everyone for the other lyrics - would you by chance have the music? Thanks again - appreciate your help. |
Subject: RE: Mayo From: Dale Rose Date: 05 Feb 98 - 12:28 PM Bridie Gallagher did a song called Home To Mayo on Monitor 732 (60s???) "For someone is waiting for me I know" I thought I remembered a Ruthie Morrissey version, but it was not on the album I found. |
Subject: RE: Mayo From: Wolfgang Hell Date: 05 Feb 98 - 10:03 AM Christy Moore on his "The spirit of freedom" sings the recent political ballad "Michael Gaughan" (one of the deadv IRA hungerstrikers) to the tune of this song. Obviously a considerable part of the lyrics is also used and only slightly adapted to fit Gaughan's dying. Take me home to Mayo across the Irish (not:Atlantik) sea (for Gaughan was dying in England)...
and: "My name is Michael Gaughan And I had always thought that "Michael Gaughan" was a recent ballad... Thanks Rosie for posting the lyrics which are I guess considerably older than the ones I knew, but, however, JFog, if you are interested in the IRA version, drop me a line here. Wolfgang
