My father used to sing a song that went something like:

Honey, your hair grows too long Lord Lord Lord Lord I'm going where nobody knows my name Lord Lord Lord Lord

I'm told it's called Levee Moan - does anyone know where I might find a recording of it? If so, could you email me at jt.thompson@indigo.ie

Thanks - JT

O baby where you been so long, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord
O baby where you been so long, (2X)

O honey let your hair hang down, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord
O honey let your hair hang down, (2X)

O honey your hair grows to long, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord
O honey your hair grows to long (2X)

Version A, same as above

Ah'm going where nobody knows my name......

Ah'm going where they don't shovel no snow

Ah'm going where the chilly winds don't blow

Ah'm going on that ol KC line

Sandburg (excuse the above word play on his name, couldn't resist) says it was found on both the Mississippi & Ohio river levees. A side note to the levees. Though they're not considered one of the man made wonders of the world, it took more lives, material & labor to build & is longer than the Great Wall of China.

Joe, I tried it [ ] again, what'd I do wrong? JT, sorry, don't know of any recordings of this. Lomax's Southern Journeys' CD in being released in pieces, you may find something in one of those. it's not in the 2 CD prison collection. Barry
