Subject: RE: Noreen is now a student! From: Noreen Date: 23 Sep 01 - 08:28 PM What a surprise to come back to 47 posts on this thread! Thought that it must have drifted onto a more interesting topic... well, Spaw and Big Mick did try... *grin* I'm afraid you've been misled a little, I'm actually studying at Manchester Metropolitan University, not Salford, though Salford is where I was teaching, and it's nice to hear the contributions about it. The course at MMU is towards an MA in Information and Library Management, one year, full time and I start tomorrow (well today really.. in 9 hours time.. must get to bed.) I am really touched by all the interest and good wishes here, and I'll let you know how it goes! ♥ Noreen |
Subject: RE: Noreen is now a student! From: Micca Date: 23 Sep 01 - 08:05 PM Well, Noreen back to being a student eh???? If you need some practice at cataloguing I have a book/video/CD/tape collection that needs databasing!! Seriously, I wish you all the best, as someone said further up, Luck has nothing to do with it, you will do it on ability, hard work, and skill all of which you have in plenty.. May the Lady smile on your Journey.. |
Subject: RE: Noreen is now a student! From: Linda Kelly Date: 23 Sep 01 - 12:48 PM aah Salford Uni happy days (they werren't actually which is why I left) -I remember many many years ago having a barbeque 17 floors up in a Salford Tower block - we transported our equipment in a Tesco's trolley which we acquired and them discovered the lifts weren't working. When we finally started the barbeque it burned through the asphelt and we nearly got evicted -but hey we were young..... |

Subject: RE: Noreen is now a student! From: Susanne (skw) Date: 22 Sep 01 - 07:15 PM I thought librarians did it in books ... Noreen, all the best, don't forget to enjoy yourself - and I do hope your studies won't keep you from attending the EuroMudcat 2002! |

Subject: RE: Noreen is now a student! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 22 Sep 01 - 02:04 AM No, Librarians do it in silence...... not half as much fun.... mind you... I know a librarian who did it over his desk in the reference section one evening...... Filing clerks do it in the range..... Researchers do it in the archives..... Computer operators do it with hardware, Programmers do it with software. As being a Librarian is part filing clerk, part computer operator and part researcher, we could be in for an interesting time! I worked in a library for 8 years, all we ever got was sore feet and bad backs. Oh and a knife pulled on us in the Reference Library. As I now work for the Inland Revenue, I get to do it with the Queen's authority!! LTS |

Subject: RE: Noreen is now a student! From: Mark Cohen Date: 21 Sep 01 - 09:42 PM I don't think it's Librarianship any more, more like Informatics or Information Sciences or some such rot. Subject: RE: Noreen is now a student! From: SINSULL Date: 21 Sep 01 - 09:27 PM Congratulations, Noreen! Now can you do something about bringing back the Card Catalogue? The computers in our libraries never work and I loved the musty smell of the cards. |
Subject: RE: Noreen is now a student! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 21 Sep 01 - 05:34 PM Have your sense of smell removed now.... musty old books and the usual 'clientele' have an aroma all their own, especially when the radiators are on full blast in June (but never in January.....)
