Subject: Sing With Me From: Alice Date: 23 Sep 01 - 01:53 AM At my last song circle, before the 11th, I was the only one who showed up. I can't make it to the Getaway or any of the other gatherings of Mudcatters, so here's a virtual circle, if anyone wants to join in. It's hard to know what to choose for a starter... this may seem an odd choice, but I'll begin with AS TIME GOES BY. |

Subject: RE: Sing With Me From: Pinetop Slim Date: 23 Sep 01 - 06:36 PM On Orders from God (it's been kicking around my head since members of a local cult were accused of starving a 10-month-old boy to death, but seems appropriate to the times and I'd love to sing it with a circle.) When they cut off the world, I didn't blame 'em at all Cause it made 'em feel cheap, and it made 'em feel small But the voice that they heeded Was just their own pride And a little boy suffered That little boy died Aw, give 'em a sign Bring sight to their eyes Show them that love Is the light of your way Please do it soon Aw, do it today They're sayin' a baby died on orders from God On orders from God On orders from God The devil I say when you tell me your orders from God |
Subject: RE: Sing With Me From: GUEST Date: 23 Sep 01 - 06:49 PM Drink with me to days gone by Sing with me the songs we knew Here's to pretty girls who went to our heads Here's to witty girls who went to our beds Here's to them and here's to you! Drink with me to days gone by Can it be you fear to die? Will the world remember you When you fall? Can it be your life Means nothing at all? Will your death be one more lie? Drink with me to days gone by To the life that used to be At the shrine of friendship, never say die Let the wine of friendship never run dry Here's to you and here's to me |
Subject: RE: Sing With Me From: Allan C. Date: 23 Sep 01 - 11:10 PM Sorry, I can't seem to bring myself to stay with the theme ...(if, indeed there is one) because I am feeling far too playful just now. HAVE SOME MADEIRA, M'DEAR? |
Subject: RE: Sing With Me From: DonMeixner Date: 23 Sep 01 - 11:15 PM "I'll Be Seeing You" would be my choice if we are sticking with the theme. Otherwise, "It'll Never Do To Give It Up So" Don |

Subject: RE: Sing With Me From: kytrad (Jean Ritchie) Date: 25 Sep 01 - 04:52 PM Alice, "None But One" is the title song for the CD, "Non But One/High Hills and Mountains, which is a combo of two albums. NBO is just a little poem I made and set to an sdaptation of the melody, "Nonesuch."
Across the fields there moves a sway, And sounding all around a sound (etc.- use this as chorus- it is higher in the scale than the verse, and not part of the regular,"Nonesuch" tune). Love to all, Jean |
Subject: RE: Sing With Me From: Noreen Date: 25 Sep 01 - 05:03 PM Some powerful harmonies in this circle! Alice and all, as I've just learned it, please help me out singing Hard Times Come Again No More. Feels just right for now... Noreen |

Subject: RE: Sing With Me From: GUEST,Boab Date: 01 Oct 01 - 02:01 AM [Spatulate digits hit the wrong key---see previous abortive posting!] ALAN C. --I think you mean "LEEZIE Lindsay" in your first suggestion.Just a wee nudge!!! Guest Dave---a man of tastes similar to my own----great songs. My own contributions to the song-circle-- " The Laird o' Cockpen" and "Lassie wi' the Yellow Coatie". |
Subject: RE: Sing With Me From: Allan C. Date: 01 Oct 01 - 07:58 PM Boab, your spelling, according to a poster in one of the threads about this song, is in agreement with a Child spelling. The spelling seems to vary somewhat, depending upon the source. (See the DT, for instance.) It was pointed out in one person's post in one of those threads that the important thing was to pronounce it correctly - with the double E sound. I am an outlander and can only plead ignorance. Having said that, please allow me to try to not mangle the Gaelic in SHULE AROON. |
Subject: RE: Sing With Me From: Alice Date: 01 May 02 - 09:46 AM What are the songs that you sing when washing the dishes? For many years, Wild Mountain Thyme would automatically come out whenever I did the laundry or wash dishes. Now when I do chores around the house, the song that seems to pop out is Gershwin's "Someone To Watch Over Me". Or sometimes, if I'm warmed up, "Vilia" from the Merry Widow, or "Think of Me" from Phantom of the Opera. Alice |
