Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dippin' Snuff From: IanC Date: 24 Sep 01 - 05:53 AM Paula All I've found is that it's on several albums by Jerry Hahn and his quintet (often as an instrumental). Here's one site.

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dippin' Snuff From: Jim Dixon Date: 05 Dec 11 - 07:24 AM I doubt that the song Paula Brown had in mind came from Jerry Hahn. I've listened to some of Jerry Hahn's music, and I couldn't find any with lyrics. And it doesn't sound like the kind of thing you could easily sing any lyrics to. These are the recordings with "snuff" in the title that are listed at the Online 78-rpm Discographical Project: Fiddlin' John Carson, KATE'S SNUFF BOX, Okeh 45440, 1929 Victor Orchestra, MUSICAL SNUFF BOX, Victor 22167, 1929 Kid Prince Moore, TALKIN' ABOUT THE SNUFF, Decca 7539, 1938 Columbia Salon Orch, MUSICAL SNUFF BOX, Columbia 36133, 1939 Brunswick Salon Orch, MUSICAL SNUFF BOX, Brunswick 8458, 1939? Subject: Lyr Add: SNUFF DIPPIN' MAMA (Charles Brown) From: Jim Dixon Date: 05 Dec 11 - 07:42 AM I transcribed this from Spotify: SNUFF DIPPIN' MAMA As sung by Charles Brown with Johnny Moore's Blazers on "Snuff Dippin' Mama" (1995) Snuff dippin' mama, what makes your lip hang so low? Snuff dippin' mama, what makes your lip hang so low? Since you been dippin' that snuff, daddy don't love you no more. Baby, baby, baby, don't think your daddy's rough. Baby, baby, baby, don't think your daddy's rough. Well, your daddy loves you, but you gotta stop dippin' that snuff. I took her to the op'ra; I looked at baby's lip. By the way that it was droopin' I knew that baby had a dip. Snuff dippin' mama, what makes your lip hang so low? You gotta stop that dippin' or daddy don't love you no more. Baby, baby, baby, daddy wants you to know. Baby, baby, baby, daddy wants you to know. Well, your teeth are gettin' muddy, and that snuff has got to go. |
