Subject: Lament Of An Irish Immigrant From: Kathleen Date: 30 Dec 96 - 08:45 PM I'd like to do this song for my exam but I can't find it anywhere. It was originally sung by the Rankin Family on their album The Rankin Family. It is a Lady Dufferin Traditional. The sheet music or any information would be great. Thank you for your help! |

Subject: Lyr Add: LAMENT OF THE IRISH IMMIGRANT From: Amergin Date: 29 Jun 00 - 03:18 PM I found the lyrics:
LAMENT OF THE IRISH IMMIGRANT
I'm sitting on a stile, Mary
'Tis but a step down yonder lane
I'm very lonely now Mary
Yours was the good brave heart, Mary
I'm bidding you a long farewell
And often in those grand old woods

Subject: RE: Lament Of An Irish Immigrant From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 30 Jun 00 - 11:05 AM The reason that there was nothing in this thread, and why it isn't in the DT, is that it is the wrong title.
The correct title is Lament of the Irish EMIGRANT. There have been a number of threads, some quite long on it under that name. Do a Forum search with Irish Emigrant

Subject: RE: Lament Of An Irish Immigrant From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 01 Jul 00 - 01:44 PM Hmmm. Looking in the DT, it appears that I was wrong. The song is NOT in the DT, in either form, Lament of the Irish Emigrant or Lament of the Irish Immigrant. |
Subject: RE: Lament Of An Irish Immigrant From: John in Brisbane Date: 02 Jul 00 - 05:48 AM I have the scores of a number of Lady Dufferin songs, but I think this one is in my office. I'll check tomorrow. Regards, John |

Subject: RE: Lament Of An Irish Immigrant From: Dale Rose Date: 02 Jul 00 - 09:43 PM I am in the process of starting a web page for real audio song files to be used with at least a few of our threads. It is very much in a beginning stage, but it is far enough along to be of use. Just don't expect too much. Go to My unfinished web page for a recording of The Irish Emigrant by John McCormack from 1928. I also have a couple of recordings from the Coot From Tennessee thread, and some related pictures. The song files are of the downloadable type, so just click on the link and go on about your business until the song loads. If you are unable to get a file to load properly, send me a personal message, and I will send it via email.
I don't intend to make this a site for the general public, just us. How much I put up there depends on whether the group sees it as a valuable resource. I WILL be putting up sources where the recordings can be bought eventually. Naturally, many of them will be available from your friendly Mudcat/Camsco/Folk Legacy dealers!
And now . . . back to the Lament of the Irish Emmigrant. |
