Try Cajun websites, plenty of two steps & waltzes. Mostly French, but not all. Good luck.

Thanks, guest, I do know Faded Love, and that would fit this type of country dance gathering in Yellowstone.

M. Ted, it was the "leader" who asked me, and told me to make my own list and they will learn them. They want to learn new songs and present something new to their group of dancers. This is Wayne, who lives by Yellowstone Park, and who met with Bill Sables, Allan C., Les B. and me, at the Mudcat Adventure. Remember the photos of his house in the woods with the grizzly crossing sign? When he asked me to do this, my first response was for him to give me the list they wanted me to sing, and he said, "No, you make up a list for us to learn. We want what you will do."

Assuming you mean the same two-step I know, which is equivalent to a polka:

There's the old sea song New York Gals.

If you want to go to show tunes, there's Poppa Won't You Dance With Me from the musical High Button Shoes, and Shall We Dance from The King And I.

As a veteran dance band leader, I have a bit of advice, or warning, or whatever--Different groups have their own sets of favorite tunes--best to talk to the leader about what they like, and learn a couple of those first, and then find a couple of really fun novelty tunes that no one has played to death--for some reason, "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart" popped into my head--Many of those popular standards from the twenties are or can be played as two-steps--

Thanks Mary, but contemporary County & Western is not what I had in mind, ha! gotta go - I'll check back tonight. I know there has to be something usable in my memory somewhere...

Here's a list of songs for the two-step. Are you sure you really want to do this? ;-) I've heard of a few of these. Is this really the two-step you're talking about?

I've been asked to sing for a dance, and the request was for songs for waltzes and two steps (no tangos, darn it). Anyway, my request is, what two step songs are real crowd pleasers in your experience? Waltzes I have plenty of, but tell me those too, if you have some favorites. This will be for a contra dance gathering, but I'm open to any genre of folk songs. The band will learn whatever I want to sing. Thank you.

Alice Flynn
