Subject: RE: BS: J45 From: Wesley S Date: 01 Oct 01 - 04:17 PM Not that my opinion counts but I think it's the best guitar that Gibson ever made. |

Subject: RE: BS: J45 From: Wesley S Date: 01 Oct 01 - 05:25 PM Thanks Jack - Of course I'm a Martin owner - that's why I wasn't sure if my opinion counted. One of the guys I play with has an early 60's J45 and it's a real sweet one. And it plays like butter too. |

Subject: RE: BS: J45 From: John Hardly Date: 01 Oct 01 - 06:09 PM I'm not sure why this has a "BS" title heading. The J45 is a very worthy music-related topic. It's very worthwhile because there are just SO MANY things about guitars that enter a conversation when the J45 is brought up. 1. One of few drednoughts that still has a short scale length---changes the character of the sound AND playability. 2. As guitars go in cycles of popularity--this is another moment in time where the J45 is weighing heavy on the minds or the country's best luthiers. What's Shoenberg's latest project? --J45 knock-off, Huss and Dalton? --J45 knock-off Bourgeois? --J45 knock-off......and all but the Bourgeois are even sunburst. (though all have opted for long scale). 3. What a lovely piece to look at. Especially the older ones with the little rectangle bridge and the tear-drop pickguard. My friend even has a '60s version with the cherry sunburst. Absolute cool. One of the few guitars with a little flash........but not too much. They held back on the pearl (dot markers instead of HUGE traps) they kept all the barf off of the pickguard (sorry J200 owners) and even if that adjustable bridge was a BAD idea......it still LOOKS better that the "moustache" bridge. 4. One of few guitars whose very looks imply a sound, a style, and a level of playing. My fingers get itchy to pick one up every time I see one. J45 talk is not BS. |

Subject: RE: BS: J45 From: Clifton53 Date: 01 Oct 01 - 07:37 PM I love my J45. It's a more recent vintage (1985), but has always had a great sound, and is aging gracefully. It projects well, has a big bottom end, and at times it rings like a bell. Clifton |

Subject: RE: BS: J45 From: Jack the Sailor Date: 01 Oct 01 - 10:24 PM Wesley: Mine plays like butter to. I'm having trouble making time for it and my Seagull A. Which plays like butter with a more articulated sound. John, while all those thoughts are valid and most poetic. Thank you! Just saying "Ain't the j45 neat, is basically BS. Ditto Mine Clifton. Mine's a 64 I had restored, a thing of beauty when looked at and played. makes mw wonder why I'm hanging out on the internet... see ya |

Subject: RE: BS: J45 From: 53 Date: 01 Oct 01 - 10:30 PM it's hard to play on the computor when you have a beautiful guitar like a gibson j45 staring at you i agree. BOB |
