Chris Jones of Northumberland is collecting new songs and poems about the UK foot and Mouth epidemic, with the aim of producing a record of them – if possible, performed by the authors. He already has about a dozen, but would like some more. Can any catters help?

One very good song we haven't yet been able to track down goes to the old Northumbrian tune, "Bonny at Morn". I heard it sung in the Tap and Spile at the Whitby festival this year, but didn't catch the author's name. Anybody out there know about it?

Wassail!

Mike of Northumbria

I think I posted one here a while ago that related to the 1960's outbreak. I'll dig up the thread in a moment. Apart from that, I know of one or two even older ones.

Regards

On the other hand - that's not what you're looking for!

Mike,

I think you have looked at the old threads about this, but just in case, you'll find lyrics for Foot&mouth songs in these threads:

Foot and Mouth II
Protest song about Foot and Mouth
Lyr add: Foot and Mouth songs

Many thanks Wolfgang!
One of the threads you mentioned did contain material that my previous search had missed, including the song I was particularly looking for - the one to the tune of "Bonny at Morn". It was posted by "Guest: Willa", who is presumably the author. I'll try to get in touch with her soon. Meanwhile, Willa, if you read this first, please get in touch with me.

Wassail!

Don't like the thought that you are getting pleasure at other peoples' misfortune How would you like to have your life totally destroyed by Foot& Mouth.Perhaps the suicide rate amongst our farming community is of no consequence

Dimplydoo; I'm sorry if my posting gave you the wrong impression. perhaps if you'd heard the song you'd know that it was written to reflect my personal anger and sadness at the way the epidemic has been handled.
