Subject: Lyr Add: ALL THE OLD MEN ARE GONE (Pam Gadd) From: GUEST Date: 26 Mar 10 - 09:53 AM Here's the complete lyrics. Great album, lots of good songs besides this one. My wife and I sang one, "I Will Grow in Love With You", at Fortunato and Suzette's wedding years ago. All the old men in my life are gone Cold tractors wait to plow Tobacco pipes forever have burned out Worn out walking sticks are laid to rest Like callused hands across their chests No longer holding on For all the old men are gone Dusty hats still hang upon their nails In tribute to the sweated brows And thousand plowed rows all paved over now Brogans sit behind forgotten doors. Seems they could almost walk the floors, Shoes that once left footprints that I walked on, But all the old men are gone CHORUS: Gone to Heaven, gone to glory, they've gone home, Gone to be with their dear loved ones Who have waited for so long. What I'd give to sit upon the knee or my dear Granddad's lap. Old John or Uncle Jack, he was my favorite one. But all the old men are gone All the old men in my life are gone And with them gone the hugs and laughs No more treasured stories of the past Things are mostly quiet on the porch Even the rocking chair don't creak no more But I'm sure proud to carry on Since all the old men are gone |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: All the Old Men Are Gone (Pam Gadd) From: Jim Dixon Date: 25 Mar 10 - 10:40 PM I can only produce a few scraps from various samples—See the links below. All the old men in my life are gone Cold tractors... ...gone to Heaven, gone to glory, they've gone home, Gone to be with their dear loved ones who have waited for so long. What I'd give to sit upon the knee of my dear granddad's lap. Oh, John or Uncle Jack, he was the favored one. But all the old men are gone.... Dusty hats still hang upon their nails In tribute to the sweated brows ... Brogans sit behind forgotten doors. Seems they could almost walk the floors, Shoes that once left footprints that I walked on, But all the old men are gone. [Sung by Pam Gadd on The Long Road Sung by Gail Wade on Journey.] |
Subject: All The Old Men Are Gone From: Joe Offer Date: 05 Oct 01 - 03:02 AM Say, Big Daddy, can you post the lyrics when you get the CD? Use this thread, and just change the title of your individual message to ADD: songname. Don't worry too much if you put the wrong tag on a thread title. Most of the time, little elves notice them and whisk the wrong ones away... -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: BS: All The Old Men Are Gone From: Stilly River Sage Date: 05 Oct 01 - 01:00 AM Too bad the citation that started this thread was from The Education of Little Tree. That book is a fraud, a supposed American Indian story, actually written by a former High Wizard of the KKK. I'd find a different book containing that sentiment, if I wanted the rest of my remarks to remain in good standing. IMHO

Subject: RE: BS: All The Old Men Are Gone From: GUEST,BigDaddy Date: 04 Oct 01 - 11:30 PM Sorry about that...yes the song title is "All The Old Men Are Gone." And sorry about the "BS." My fingers got ahead of my brain. |
Subject: RE: BS: All The Old Men Are Gone From: SharonA Date: 04 Oct 01 - 06:01 PM Perhaps some kindhearted Mudelf will remove the "BS" from the thread name. Actually, the thread title reminded me of the World War II-era song, "They're Either Too Young or Too Old" (lamenting the fact that eligible men of the songwriter's age had gone to fight the war)! |
Subject: RE: BS: All The Old Men Are Gone From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 04 Oct 01 - 05:10 PM I take it the song is called "All The Old Men Are Gone"? |

Subject: All The Old Men Are Gone From: GUEST,BigDaddy Date: 03 Oct 01 - 11:02 PM In the book, "The Education Of Little Tree," the narrator says, "Granma said when you come on something good, first thing you do is share it with whoever you can find; that way, the good spreads out where no telling it will go. Which is right." Well, I just heard a portion of a song on WMNF radio the other night, looked up info via "Google," found the lyrics and ordered the album. It's by a singer/songwriter/picker named Pam Gadd and is available on her album called "The Long Road," from Vanguard. Just had to share this. Do yourself a favor and check it out. |
