Did Bing Crosby ever sing the Isle of Innisfree? Apparently he did and there IS a last verse that has been forgotten in the modern version. Does any know it ?

This song (which Crosby did indeed record) has been discussed here a number of times; type isle of innisfree into the "Digitrad and Forum Search" box on the main Forum page, and hit "GO".  It is the best of several search engines available here.  The full lyric, as written by Richard (Dick) Farrelly in c.1950 (© Peter Maurice Music Co.), is in this thread:  ISLE OF INNISHFREE.

The text in the Digital Tradition database is missing a verse, and is not credited to the composer, who was born in Kells in County Meath, and was a successful songwriter and policeman.  Apparantly, he wrote Innisfree while on the bus from Kells to Dublin.  It has been suggested here that the melody was based on an earlier one, but no specifics have emerged.

Hi,

You will find the full and correct lyric of the "Isle Of Innisfree" on my own website - www.stoneandfarrelly.com

There is a forth verse which is sometimes not recorded as it can make the song a good bit longer. This verse is included in the lyrics.
The website has more info on my father, the composer of the song.

Regards,
Gerard Farrelly
