A number of geoduck songs are in the DT and/or various threads. What about Washington State's other official mollusk, the slug? Any slug songs out there? Naked escargot ballads?

Too Slim of Riders In The Sky does a hilarious poem called "The Salting of The Slug".

I'm sure the Banana Slug String Band out of Santa Cruz do some slug songs.I'll look around and see what I can find.

OK, Salting of the Slug is in the DT, but it won't come up with the SuperSearch.Click on S in the all titles section and scroll down to it.

The Banana Slug String Band do a song on their "Dirt Made My Lunch" CD called Banana Slug,but I haven't found the lyrics for it. It might,however,be the same one Deni talks about in the "Road Kill" thread.

I haven't been able to master blueclickies for Mudcat threads so I can't link you to it.

Well, I have a "Banana Slug Song" on my CD of pirated MP3's supposedly by TMBG, but can't find any reference to it on any of the TMBG websites. I got it from my stepson who got it from one of his band buddies, so the "TMBG" attribution may be inaccurate.

I shall continue to look...

This is a really embarassing topic to know two songs about. Someone already mentioned the slug salting ballad from Riders in the Sky. Also, there's a parody of Dave Mallett's "Garden Song" that begins, "Slug by slug, weed by weed/This garden's got me really teed." I believe it's in Rise Up Singing if not on the DT.

banana slugs to be one of the most vicious and
pathological predators of human beings on the
planet. There are only two reasons why we don't
hear more horror stories of banana slug-related
deaths. First, they're not very smart. They can't
plan ahead, use tools, or lure their prey with
subtle bait. Second, and this is the important
thing to remember if you ever find yourself in a
life-threatening situation where a banana slug has
the upper hand: They are very, very slow.

Chop them, pound them, slice and dice them,
Fava beans will do quite nice then
You can even make them into julienne fries.

I used to play with a contradance band known as "The Sea Slugs." We should not neglect the mariner species.

Another standard reference should be the children's book "Slugs Is Slugs."

I heard a song may years ago at a folk-festival in canada. All I can remember now is the chorus:

"Nobody likes us cos we're slugs
No, they're not fond of us like they are of all the other bugs"

The song was about how slugs are ugly and nasty, but how, when the full moon rises they transform into beautiful fairy creatures and dance the night away, drinking strawberry margaritas (hold the salt).

Any takers on this one? It's been at least 15 probably 20 years since I heard it, so the fact that I can actually remember the chorus is not so bad, eh?
