These over the border bellringing battles are quite common - I got involved with a long running Somerset/Dorset one, in which two ringing captains were vying with each other to see who could ring the most quarter peals in the other county. Dorset won. Never made a song about it though.

Yes; it's a Devon song, though three of the placenames are over the border.  It was collected by Sabine Baring Gould (I think) from William George Kerswell of Two Bridges, Dartmoor, and first published in Songs of the West (various editions between 1889 and 1905).

As Ian Marshall a local Cornish sage says in his book, there are a few puzzles here! It doesn't seem possible that the tenor bell would be rung 'out of order' in rounds, change-ringing is more complex but not used for contests. Why did the re-match take place at Callington and not at Launceston as scheduled. But never mind it's all in Cornwall eh?
