24-track mobile?

I've become involved in a 'project' with many local musicians, which will culminate in a one-off theatrical/music performance early next June.

Lighting/PA is taken care of, but what we need is a cheap/free mobile recording studio who is willing to sit outside in his/her van on the end of the multicore for 2 hours...

Anybody got any ideas? I'd thought of contacting the BBC, but have so far drawn a blank...

Can you explain a little more about what you're doing / want to do with a recording.

Don't really understand why you'd need 24 tracks, or why the guy/girl would have to sit in a van outside!

Surely something more simple could be set up via the PA?

I don't have any hardware to offer I'm afraid, but a bit more information might help me to offer better advice.

The sound guy reckons he'll have enough work to do mixing the live sound, and has gone over completely to digital so doesn't have the facility to record a 2 hour performance (takes up too much disk, apparently). There's insufficient time to download from his rack of PCs onto another medium.

His opinion (I have no reason to doubt it, he's been doing it for 30 years) is that the easiest way would be to get a second mixer, a second sound guy, and a set of gear to record the 24 tracks we'll be using live...

I've no knowledge of things PA-ish, I just sing into them and say if it sounds OK, so any and all comments are gratefully accepted...

Let me get this right

You want a skilled engineer with a portable 24 track to come and record your gig for nothing???

No wonder replies have been limited.

Such things cost money

Mackie is advertising a 24-track/24-bit direct to hard drive recorder for about $2000. Can't remember how many minutes the hard drive will hold, but "100" sticks in my mind. You might want to check it out.

Yeas, I know, GUEST (sheesh). I was hoping somebody who works for the BBC would volunteer. Any takers? Meanwhile, if you wish to imply stupidity or otherwise, would you either (a) give me a name so I can send you a pork chop in the post, or (b) care to step outside? GUEST? eh? I thought not.
