Moon Mandolins

I have a Moon Mandolin that I bought recently at a show. It's in need of attention but as I'm not much of a mandolin player I can't justify the expense. I found the Mandolin cafe is a great site for simple two fingered chords, ideal for someone with fingers the size of mine!

Just in case anyone is still interested...

I bought that Moon mandolin a week ago. It had been out of service for a while because the retailer took it to a show where it received some minor damage. Now repaired, it is my current favourite. I did the usual set-up, strap button, and new strings (D'Addario) treatment to it and am quite pleased. I have a Weber tailpiece on order from Elderly to replace the pressed steel Gibson-style one it was made with, and I think it will suit the instrument better. This is no fancy Sunday-go-to-meetin' mandolin, just a good quality, solid wood, utilitarian tool for the proletarian musician. Beautiful voice though, and it should only get better.

The various Moon instruments I've tried have all been pretty good...well built with a good well-balanced sound.

Well, "bob", what's the builder's name? What do the mandolins sound and look like? Where are they available? What are they called? Why do you keep us hanging? Why don't you use capitals? Why am I asking so many questions?

there is a man in my hometown that builds great looking and sounding mandolins, i can't play one,but they sure do add to a nice bluegrass band. bob.

No it was my incompetence and inability to remember how to do a fecking blue clicky thing.. I put the wrong address in the clicky thing that's why it didn't work...

Jimmy Moon is based in , and from (as far as I know) Glasgow, in Scotland.

He builds guitars, mandolins, bouzoukis and other instruments.

I was speaking to Jimmy last week - he plays in a band called the Moonshiners - I also saw a fantastic one-off dobro-style resonator guitar that he built for Phil, one of the band members.

Moon instruments are beautiful, and sound fantastic.

Mr Moon has made guitars also, both acoustic and electric.I've seen his instruments reviewed ,and they're always given good ones. Sorry no address as yet but I'llkeep looking.

From the Hobgoblin Music UK site I discovered some for sale, but nothing more otherwise than sales hype. Builder's name is Jimmy Moon.

I have recently become acquainted with a new (to me at least) brand of mandolin named Moon, built in Scotland. It sounds quite good and is made of maple, spruce, and mahogany. It's a flat-top, A style, round hole, snake head sort of thing with a warm even tone with lots of sparkle. It's my idea of a good folk mandolin.

Does anyone have experience with a Moon? Thanks for your opinions and assistance.
