Subject: History behind some songs
From: GUEST,Paulco
Date: 15 Oct 01 - 06:01 PM

Hi all- I'm trung to find out some history on two songs, so I hope there is someone out there who can help me. The first is this: Does the song 'The Galtee Mountain Boy' refer to an individual (as 'The Wild Colonial Boy' does)? If so, who was he and what do we know about him? I've looked at some old threads on this song but they don't address this question. Secondly, does anyone know the details behind the song 'The Upton Ambush'? Was it an actual event? If so, when did it occur and what is the full story? Any answers or suggestions for where I might look for answers would be appreciated.

Paulco.

Hi, Paulco, a good place to start is in thsi thread, Origins: Found on the Mudcat, which has an alphabetised list of links to various discussions on songs' histories.

You will most likely get some answers in this thread, but you'd probably get more if you were to start a separate thread with a more specific title for each one.

Good luck, these are the kinds of questions which bring about great discussions here, so thanks for asking!

kat

Paulco, ask the question about the Galtee Mountain Boy on one of those old threads (if there are several, choose the one that seems most comprehensive already- and has the song name in the thread title).

It's best, where possible, to keep all discussion of a song on the same thread.

Sorry I can't help with the answers, but I don't know either song.

Noreen
