Subject: Seán ÓRiada, From: GUEST,chrisj Date: 15 Oct 01 - 10:26 PM Lovers of traditional Irish music everywhere remember Seán on the thirtieth anniversary of his death. Ar dheis lámh Dé go raibh sé. |

Subject: RE: Seán ÓRiada, From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 15 Oct 01 - 11:19 PM I think that might be widened to "traditional and contemporary," chrisj. He was an accomplished composer of serious music as well as one of the earliest champions of the present traditional revival. I happened to be staying at Sandy Cove, near Kinsale, when he died. His funeral was a solemn and wonderful affair all right. Thanks for the reminder. |

Subject: RE: Seán ÓRiada, From: Peter Kasin Date: 16 Oct 01 - 01:24 AM Thanks for posting that. While on my one trip to Ireland in 1989, I heard his Mass performed in a church during a festival in Kerry, where local traditional/pub singers made up the choir. A beautiful work and performance. |

Subject: RE: Seán ÓRiada, From: Matthew Edwards Date: 16 Oct 01 - 03:45 AM Have a look at the IRTRAD list on www.heanet.ie for some recent comments and evaluations of Seán Ó Riada, some of which are quite insightful. |

Subject: RE: Seán ÓRiada, From: Matthew Edwards Date: 16 Oct 01 - 03:57 AM Sorry a better link would be to the list's archive page IRTRAD-L archive where you can click on the October 2001 index to find messages re Seán Ó Riada, but some of them, as usual, are completely irrelevant. |
