Subject: James Madison Carpenter From: Skipper Jack Date: 20 Oct 01 - 01:24 PM I,m trying to find information on the American researcher, Prof. James Madison Carpenter. Apparently he researched sea songs/shanties collected in the South Wales Ports. I do have Calennig's "Trade Winds" CD which features songs collected by JMC. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |
Subject: RE: Help: James Madison Carpenter From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 20 Oct 01 - 01:37 PM An entire edition of the Folk Music Journal (EFDSS, vol.7, no.4, 1998) was devoted to him; try for a copy through inter-library loans or whatever the equivalent is where you live, or alternatively contact EFDSS; there are probably still copies available from them. A project is currently underway to index the entire collection; I believe that that index will eventually be available online. |

Subject: RE: Help: James Madison Carpenter From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 17 Apr 03 - 11:37 AM The index is now online, at http://www.hrionline.ac.uk/carpenter/ It's hoped eventually to make the materials themselves available online, but this will depend on funding and the obtaining of appropriate permissions. |
