Subject: going bananas
From: Mr Red

A guy at work reckoned that simian primates eat bananas by holding the stalk and peeling from the closed end. It is reckoned to be sweeter that end and they discard some of the flesh from t'other end.
I tried it and it is not difficult to start the peel, if anything easier. Sweeter? I need more research. And Red bananas are out of season, but they are definitely sweeter.
So how do other 'Catters eat bananas?

my colleague also insists that they don't grow on trees but the banana plant is a herb? but he modified that to a herbacious plant.

They are big, but they are not technically trees.

I don't know about the ends being sweeter, but I try to eat them when they are moderately green. Much more interesting flavor.

I don't. When steak starts growing on trees, I'll eat fruit. :)

That's a pretty shocking statement, coming from a jackrabbit!

Here is the one and only way to eat a banana:

1. carefully slice through the skin in a circle around the midpoint of the banana, without damaging the "meat" within. A Swiss Army knife works best for this.

2. Now firmly grasp both ends of the banana, one hand at each end.

3. Pull apart vigorously! The entire banana will drop neatly out of the skin, and you catch it with your tongue.

4. If the banana falls on the floor, you will have to start over with another one. Regular tongue exercising helps prevent this from happening.

bananas are good for you, they provide potassium which help the muscles in your legs.

The only proper way to eat a banana...

Peel and slice lengthwise
Place in a trough shaped bowl.
Place one well-rounded scoop each--vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate ice cream along the length of the sliced banana.
Upon the strawberry ice cream drizzle a healthy amount of chocolate syrup.
Upon the chocolate ice crean drizzle a healthy amount of butterscotch syrup.
Upon the vanilla ice cream drizzle a healthy amount of strawberry preserves.
Cover liberally with whipped cream.
Upon each mound (if you can still distinguish them) place three marachino cherries.

This must be good for you too, because the word "healthy" appears in the recipe no fewer than three times.

Being a rich source of Potassium bananas are an excellent remedy for a hangover... the headache and other unpleasant symptoms of overindulgence being due to the diuretic, and therefore dehydrating effect of alchohol...useful to know!

Take an unpeeled banana
Cut it lengthwise.
With a dessert knife cut each half into segments, taking care to cut only the flesh, not the skin (same as a slice of melon).
Eat alternate segments with a fork.
Eat the segments you left.

In PRIVATE, select an unpeeled banana.
Pierce with a sewing needle near one end.
Move the sewing needle, so that it slices the flesh, without damaging the skin.
Remove the needle, re-insert lower, and repeat slicing action.
Repeat until you have sliced all of the banana.
In public, peel the banana in the usual way, and express amazement at peeling a sliced banana! (It works best with kids)
