Subject: Hooray For Howard!!! From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 22 Oct 01 - 12:03 PM On October 19-21, the Eisteddfod festival at the University of Southern Mass. was held to honor Howard Glasser on his retirement. There are only a handful of people in this country who have done as much to encourage and promote traditional folk music as Howard. From his days at Carneghie Tech in Pittsburgh to Rhode Island, and finally to Massachusetts, Howard had been a champion for all of us folk singers. He has done it with modesty, love, generosity and a warm sense of humor, never seeking attention for himself. For Howard, it has always been the music and the musicians. Saturday night, those musicians of us who were blessed enough to be up on stage, singing, had a chance to express our gratitude for all that Howard has done for us. I will always be indebted to him for booking me for a concert in Pittsburgh many years ago, when no one knew who I was... in contrast to now, when most people still don't know who I was. For every musician who had a chance to take the stage, there were two equally talented musicians in the audience. This thread is an opportunity for all of us who love Howard to express our gratitude for all that he has done. Step right up... Jerry Rasmussen |
