Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: GUEST,Clinton Hammond's Secret Santa Date: 27 Oct 01 - 11:11 PM I am running a bit short on lumps of coal for this naughty little kanaydjian fella. Anyone got any ideas for what we get the gent? I have spoken with the elves and the little buggers did come up with some hilarious suggestions, but I am afraid that most wouldn't past muster in any but the lowest of crowds...........like Spaw. In fact I think I will talk to Karen and see if she is accepting bids.......................wait.............if she tries to recoup his medical costs in the last 6 months alone, I am fucked..................Wait.........I can depreciate his ass............... |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Helen Date: 27 Oct 01 - 11:06 PM Message for Helen's Secret Santa, I have Nanny Ogg's Cookbook, but thanks anyway. I'm sorry to say that I don't really get into those extra books relating to novels etc. My hubby gave me the Nanny Ogg one & I still haven't really looked at it. I really like dragons & wizards, so anything like that: art or a figurine or a book etc would be lovely. Or anything with soft rainbow colours, or suncatchers, or windchimes. Helen |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: GUEST,Helen's Secret Santa Date: 27 Oct 01 - 12:48 PM Helen's Secret Santa says thanks for the links. Dymocks' summaries are really nice, much better than what I found at Amazon. The request for something fome my home town has been noted and will be taken into consideration. I've lived in enough places that I have a fair amount of latitude. HSS shares her interest in Discworld, but mostly borrows the books from a friend. You've said you have all the books, but what about the extras like Nanny Ogg's cookbook, the maps, guides, etc.? |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Allan C. Date: 27 Oct 01 - 11:39 AM What?! You mean Spaw's not getting one of those Looney Toons Clocks? I can only imagine his disappointment. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: GUEST,Spaw's Secret Santa Date: 27 Oct 01 - 11:28 AM My dearest Spaw, I've carefully considered all the options in your hints, and spent all day yesterday trying to castrate the kangaroos in the local zoo to obtain the coveted scrotums. This has led to me being banned from said establishment, with the threat of repossession of my reindeers. I have since found you a lovely gift - not in any way vulgar or tacky - no, no, no! Sorry about the lack of porn though - none of the elves would take the photos for me. Anyway, it's a bit too cold up here in the North Pole for removing my nice furry suit - someone would lose an eye on a nipple. Anyway, it'll all be on its way soon. Remember...be good! Lots of love, ho ho ho and all that, Spaw's Secret Santa |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: GUEST,California Susan's Santa Date: 27 Oct 01 - 09:53 AM Come now dearie! Don't be shy! Forget about the questionaire, what have you always wanted? Imagine yourself in Santa's Lap and send a whisper into his ear. Has there ever been something you dearly wanted to try for yourself but never have? What is on the big life list? Have you a secret desire to learn to tap-dance? yodel? make paper airplanes? The elves want to know. |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Amergin Date: 26 Oct 01 - 11:46 PM blackcatter...that sounds interesting and all...but would you really want Spaw to be your secret valentine? |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Blackcatter Date: 26 Oct 01 - 11:36 PM You know... Maybe we should start planning for a secret Valentine... |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Gloredhel Date: 26 Oct 01 - 05:48 PM Gee, come to think of it, maybe I should give some more hints. For instance any recording of Steeleye Span, any at all, would be appreciated. I love jewelry, but only small stuff, in any metal. I'm also interested in Arthurian stuff, but don't have many books on that subject. The VHS of "The Secret of Roan Inish" would be nice. That specific enough for you, Santa? |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Blackcatter Date: 26 Oct 01 - 04:34 PM Greetings all When you live in Florida and like rocks, you're especially appreciative upon receiving them. We don't have much here. The closest we get is so fossilize mammal bones and teeth in some of the river beds.

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Kim C Date: 26 Oct 01 - 01:43 PM I would like to tell my SS, that a photograph of him/her would be appreciated, if they do not already have one posted in the Resource pages. Did I mention that I also collect winery glasses? I know wine is out of the question for the mails. :-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Allan C. Date: 26 Oct 01 - 01:18 PM Ditto, Jeri. But my giftee has totally ignored my imploring all to supply more details as to likes and wishes. The questionnaire was just a starting place, folks! |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Jeri Date: 26 Oct 01 - 01:09 PM Well, nobody loves me - no Secret Santa? Either that, or they hate me, they're out of town, they're allergic to logging out, or they know me well enough to not have to dig...and that last one has me REALLY scared! |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: GUEST,The_one_and_only_Santa Date: 26 Oct 01 - 12:36 PM Dai? oh Dai? I have decided on your goodies. Something enduring, and something ephemeral, all distinctly from my corner of the globe. (why do we say that? A sphere has no corners.) HeeHeeHeeHee! I dance with glee! Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Mrrzy Date: 26 Oct 01 - 11:33 AM Good question - if we get our prezzies early, do they go with the rest of the celebration or are we allowed to open them now? Elaborating: Favorite color is still purple, preferably on the fuschia or magenta side, for things made to wear or display. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: GUEST,Ella's Secret Santa Date: 26 Oct 01 - 10:38 AM Oh dear me, Ella, your Santa is blushing. (I know Santa has rosy cheeks anyway). BOWL. I meant bowl of course. br> I would like it if you opened it immediately. I think they would like it as well. I'm not sure how long they can go without food and water. Let them out, let them out! Besides, I can't keep my identity a secret much longer. Santa Claus. |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Pseudolus Date: 26 Oct 01 - 09:08 AM My dearest Pseudo Santa....Here are the answers to your questions.....
How many camels can be stabled at your dwelling place?
Are there separate bathroom facilities for Men, Sloe-eyed houris and Eunuchs? If not, can portable facilities be arranged?
How close are you to the exit ramp off the interstate that leads to Far Samarkand?
And lastly, do you have an icehouse large enough for the storage of two or more chocolate-covered llamas? Frank |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Ella who is Sooze Date: 26 Oct 01 - 05:48 AM it's odd isn't it Fib, can't explain why, a little memory of the place I've been to perhaps... or perhaps we've both got Rock-cleptomania. My most dead glam piece of rock is a purple one from the top of a volcano that my dad got for me... I couldn't walk to the top with him as I started getting altitude sickness (I was only young), so he got me it... awww bless. I have various rocks in the car from all over the place... mmmmmm rocks....mmmm stones... uh oh! Santa, please send me a stone (small one will do) too. Cheers! |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Fibula Mattock Date: 26 Oct 01 - 04:50 AM Ella, I do that as well. It used to really piss off my parents when we were on holiday and I insisted on bringing yet another collection of rocks home. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: alison Date: 26 Oct 01 - 02:56 AM for whoever asked... any time I have ordered CDs online they come via the US sites (I'm in Oz) if my secret santa happens to be in the UK .... a bar of galaxy chocolate would be appreciated.... mind you it'd be arriving in the middle of summer... so maybe not a good idea....lol slainte alison |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Ella who is Sooze Date: 26 Oct 01 - 02:49 AM I particularly like shoreline rocks from beaches. My friends laugh at me, as everywhere I go I find one I like and bring it home... i don't know why I do it... perhaps it's something from back in family history... WHO KNOWS! |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Blackcatter Date: 26 Oct 01 - 12:50 AM I've got several lumps of coal! From Penn., Colorado and Britain. Also, remember that the "mineral" Jet is actually coal ad particularly dense form of it and quite attractive.
|
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Amergin Date: 25 Oct 01 - 10:04 PM well...I could get another lump of coal...to add to my ever growing collection.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Blackcatter Date: 25 Oct 01 - 09:56 PM Hi Burke Thanks for the info. As to irradiation - A lot of foods are irradiated every day it is done to kill bacteria and doesn't really hurt anything else (at least that's what they tell us. I'm not sure what form of radiation they use. Many places use ultra violet currently - and that kiils anthrax quite well. The poblem is that it cannot pass through nearly all envelopes and packages and more that visible light can, in fact it doesn't past through clear glass all that well either. pax yall |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Burke Date: 25 Oct 01 - 04:52 PM I heard on the news that the USPS will start irradiating the mail. Does anyone know what effect this might have on food products we might ship like chocolate, syrups, jams, etc.?
Re the alcohol part. Here's the USPS information:
Title 18 U.S. Code That's the law. Obviously people ship it all the time with no problem. They might stop you if you list it on a customs declaraton form. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Mrrzy Date: 25 Oct 01 - 01:37 PM HEY AMERGIN'S SECRET SANTA PM ME IF YOU NEED IDEAS! |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Blackcatter Date: 25 Oct 01 - 01:29 PM Greetings all My guess is that the reason libations are a no-no to send is because of the tariffs and such attached to them. Not for any health or other reason, but I could be wrong. Alcohol is sent all the time (legally and illegally) without deliterious effects (to the mail). I have received Black Death from Iceland a few times over the years, and another friend sent me a couple bottles of single malt from Scotland this last Summer. Maybe some people would like some Everclear if their Santa is from the (late) Confederate States... I guess I'll have to get working on the gift for my Santee. pax yall |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Kim C Date: 25 Oct 01 - 01:13 PM I know Amazon has a UK site, don't know about Oz. Sure, you can use the vendor's shipping option... but I wanta put in a photo and a note and all that. Make it personal and such. Hmm. Rocks. Tennessee is FULL of rocks. Nashville was once known as Rock City (not to be confused with the Chattanooga-area tourist attraction of the same name, which is actually sort of fun,in a cheesy way). I kid you not. The first year Mister and I had a garden, we dug up lots of rocks. But not just rocks, gentle friends, oh no, these were SLABS. And when new housing complexes go up, you should see the rocks that surface! But I digress. Let me just thank Clinton for the Secret Santa idea, even if he did once say I should be shot at the next Civil War reenactment... ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: GUEST,Secret Santa shipping overseas Date: 25 Oct 01 - 12:47 PM What are the online book & recording stores for OZ & UK? It seems to me another way to get around deadlines & problems for overseas shipping it to order online from services in the country of destination, if it's available there. If you want to send a CD to someone in the US, I'd ask you to order from Dick or Sandy & let them mail it. Use Amazon or Barnes & Nobel for books. Your credit card company will take care of the currency conversion. OK, the truth is that I want to know if my giftee can get a certain book at home & I can't figure out any other way to check.
|
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: katlaughing Date: 25 Oct 01 - 10:32 AM I sent s tiny bottle of stuff to the Uk, to two different people, with no problem. I, too, would like to second those who've said a stone from a secret santa's region would be quite welcome, as I do collect stonepeople (minerals/rocks:-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: GUEST,Kim C no cookie Date: 25 Oct 01 - 10:27 AM No Fortunato, it is just me being too freakin lazy to reset my darn cookie! I guess I ought to, though. This Santy has already decided what to send to her recipient. I think 'twill be a lovely surprise. heeheehee |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 25 Oct 01 - 08:39 AM Thanks Fortunato, I suspected that! I always thought people around here sent Bourbon in the mail...guess I better check. Also a friend in Nassau sends pepper jelly...hmmmmmm. |
