Better late than never, I suppose...

The Border Morris dance 'White Ladies Aston' is often danced to 'Whitehaven Volunteer(s?)' and Rub-a-Dub...

Whitehaven Volunteer is a little like Galopede and Petronella, so it's always a pain trying to remember the correct 'B' music, or indeed if the 'A' music is correct!!

Stockport Polka, Southport Polka, Rub-a-Dub, Stop the Cavalry... I read somewhere that Jona Lewie 'collected' his tune from somewhere else - a Russian tune if I recall correctly.

http://www.folkinfo.org/songs/displaysong.php?songid=499 is currently down, but may return soon! I've not made a blicky, in case it comes back as something else.

Also known as Rub-a-Dub.  It can be found under that title, or as Stop the Cavalry, through  J C's Tunefinder.

I have been asked by my Morris side to learn a tune called "Stockport Polka" but can find no reference to it anywhere, but I am told it is the tune used by Jona Lewie for his song "Don't stop the Cavalry" Any ideas please? Dave.
