So Congrats to the new "Winnigest Coach in College Football"..........Joe Paterno, the great coach of Penn State has done it and done it against one of only six teams that he had a losing record against...Ohio State. After a poor start on the year and a pretty weak team, Paternon has done wonders in the past two weeks, aided today by an Ohio State team that was red hot early and freezing cold late. .....Okay, gimme a wing..........Christ there ain't no meat on this fucker at all.........Probably just as well.........Ya' know the bones have better flavor than this friggin' meat!!!!..........munchCRUNCHcrumblemoosh ................gag...........Yeah...................... Max, Jeff, and Doc Mark.......... I congratulate you on this year's accomplishment. I make no apologies for OSU as it was a pretty decent game. Mills did a great job and here in Columbus we are starting a campaign to volunteer the Ohio State quarterback, Steve Bellisari, for service in the State Department. We figure that Bush and Powell can use a man like him in their fight against the Taliban. Forget the missiles and commando raids, why not send in Bellisari to overthrow the Taliban. He overthrows everybody else................ ........gack.............aw geez..........I'm stuffed.........gotta' eat that last piece huh?..............Hmmmmm...What the hell part a crow is this anyway?....................The asshole huh..................oh well..........................munch............BARFGAGBLAAEEUULLKKK...........aw damn...............somebody get me some of that gawdawful Pennsylvania beer to drink....yeah....Iron City......Tastes about the same as a crow's asshole and gives you a headache to boot.........got a headache anyway, so what the fuck...............glurgleglurgleglurgle......oy................. What the hell is that?!! Those guys had about as much to do with the success as you did with your team's lack of it! I think I'll go fishing...unless someone has figured out how to make that into a team sport with league standings, foam #1 fingers and all that crap. Cheesh! |

Subject: RE: BS: Spaw Eats Crow....munch..munch..munch From: Allan C. Date: 27 Oct 01 - 04:52 PM In my opinion only thing more dull than watching a fishing show is watching a televised baseball game. I suppose I should be more sensitive to what you folks consider to be important. After all, it all seems to mean something to you. I just never could see the point of getting all excited about sports in which I wasn't directly involved. I guess I haven't experienced the vicarious thrills that some seem to get. It's not that I don't like to watch a good game from time to time (but VERY rarely!). It's just that I couldn't care less who wins. |

Subject: RE: BS: Spaw Eats Crow....munch..munch..munch From: catspaw49 Date: 27 Oct 01 - 05:09 PM Believe me I DO understand Allan. A lot of this is a simple joke between Max and I....I got a couple PM's while the game was on. Am I a big fan? No, but you don't live here without being aware of OSU football....even Karen can't tune it out. But on sports in general..........It seems the older I get the less I enjoy them. I can barely sit through football of any sort now and baseball isn't what it used to be for me and I rarely keep track or watch much. Both are games I loved to play. Perhaps the further removed I become frrom actually doing it............I dunno'....A lot of sports is simply diversion for many of us, as is music. I have an equally hard time understanding how anyone can go batcrap about a football game, buying all the foam fingers and all, as I do at times getting into trad research........both reach a point where I don't really care. AND...sometimes both can reach a point where I am REALLY into a particular song or game. I am still addicted to various forms of racing. Sailing has gotten a bit of coverage on the tube finally and I can relate to the guys in the boats. I truly enjoy watching auto racing and I make no excuse for it. Even the good ol' boys running in circles excite me. Sorry, I'm a real cretin when it comes to this sport! Case in point, I have the Busch race from Phoenix on as I type...and cook. Gotta' go now in fact since I have to go get my pumpkin out of the pressure cooker.......(and I hate cooking shows, but I'd love to do one!!!!) Spaw |

Gahhh... What the hell is this thread actually about? Is it another William Shatner thread that's gotten derailed somehow? One thing, Spaw, if you have reached the point where most televised sports are boring you...it's a sign that maturity may be just around the corner! Brace yourself for life-altering changes... By the way, Hesperis and I were in the grocery the other day, and we saw an item that we were very tempted to buy for you. Well, 3 items. They are Halloween-related toys, battery powered figures of Frankenstein, Dracula, and a generic witch with green skin. When you press a button they dance to a tune, and repeat some inane phrases, but that's not all! The really notable thing about these 3 figures is the totally sappy do-gooder faces on them suckers! They look like that toothless, clawless, and clueless tiger that Esso has had in their ads the last while. You just want to put the things through a trash compactor the moment you see them. Your boy would probably love 'em though...till the batteries ran down. We were gonna send you at least one of the little abominations, but we're too cheap. So we didn't. Maybe we can spare the dough to purchase you a dancing Santa for Christmas, though. Or another talking fish. Stay tuned. - LH |

Your Wood shots went exactly there....in the woods, and your Iron shots seemed to hit every piece of metal equipment on the course including three tractors, two Greens mowers, a well head, and a ball washer being used by a little old lady who beat the crap out of you with her Mashie (5 Iron). Kendall, it's always my highest goal to get a laugh from someone like you, and especially you. Thanks. Tink, your 10 year old has a perfect understanding of the game! Really! OSU has a team and coaching that should be winning more, but it just ain't happening this year. Tressel is in his first year here as head coach and he's pretty well liked......If this were his 4th year, people would be screaming for his head.....not because he's doing a bad job but simply because every head coach at OSU has to live with the "Legend" of Woody Hayes. But the last head coach here had a better winning percentage than Woody did, but he failed in the only category that matters. OSU could lose every game by 50 points and still have a successful season if they do ONE thing......beat Michigan. If Tressel can pull it off with this team, he'll be loved and revered (for at least a year). Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Spaw Eats Crow....munch..munch..munch From: SharonA Date: 29 Oct 01 - 10:27 AM I have a couple of questions about "Joe-pa" (Joe Paterno) (formerly Papa Joe) that have been bugging me for some time, and I guess this is the place to ask: All the sports commentators I've heard have made a big thing out of Joe's being the "Winningest Coach in College Football" because he's coached a team to one more victory than has Bear Bryant... but how many years did it take him to do that, and how many years did it take Bryant? (I mean, Joe is in his 70's now, and will probably coach till he drops dead on the sidelines, so is it really a fair comparison? Is Paterno the "winningest" or more like the "coachingest"?) I've heard no talk about Paterno's losses vs. Bryant's losses over the years. Anyone have any info on that? |

Gee, Sharon, you really know how to rain on a parade, don't you? ;) Joe has won more football games than has any other coach. The interpretation is up to you. Did McGwire, Sosa and Bonds really break Babe Ruth's home run record, since he played a 154 game season and they played 162? Again, the interpretation is up to you, or your favorite sportswriter. Subject: RE: BS: Spaw Eats Crow....munch..munch..munch From: lamarca Date: 29 Oct 01 - 06:58 PM Oh, boy, a chance to be curmudgeonly about one of my favorite BS topics - no, not Spaw's eating habits (by the way, has anyone ever looked at the recipes for possum and armadillo in the earlier editions of "Joy of Cooking"? Yes, they're really there...), but my standard diatribe against America's unconstitutionally established religion - pro sports. If you are an American, you are expected to:
1. Demonstrate an inexplicable loyalty to a group of entertainers who are hired by a wealthy individual (or corporation) for profit. I enjoy watching football, baseball and hockey, but sports teams today are purely businesses (even the so-called amateur college teams). The players, for the most part, are not part of the communities in which they're located - they come and go with the profit margins. Student athletes are bought and sold by big university athletic departments for as long as they are useful, then hung out to dry without a real education once their eligilbility is over - and God forbid if any of them actually expect a share of the obscene amounts of money the universities and television networks and shoe manufacturers trade as a result of their efforts. The people who really enjoy watching a given sport expect the rest of us to share their faith and subsidize the owners in order to keep their team happy. Indeed, in some places like Texas, football and religion are so closely intertwined that members of some communities defend their "right" to have a pregame Christian prayer on the grounds that it "protects" the student athletes from injuries. I've seen statistics that say that the amount of money spent on college and pro-sports related things in a year exceeds the amount budgeted for Education programs or NASA. So, while I realize this is totally off topic with regards to Joe Paterno and Spaw's dietary preferences, I just wanted to gripe about being an unbeliever, infidel and heretic in the true state-sponsored religion of the good-ol' USA. |
