I have tried learning this song but I cant seem to get all the chords
for the lines beginning " First leaves of autumn" and "Not until a moment did I see"
Playing in C I have tried Am and Fm at different times as the last chord in each line , but I am still not happy with the sound, any suggestions ?

Does anyone know the chords to this Gallagher And Lyle song? It was originally written for the Furey's butthe G & L version has just been released for the first time on an album called 'The River Sessions'.

Radio Clyde in Glasgow discovered a load of stuff in their archives and are starting to release it including some stuff from the legendary Glasgow Apollo. G & L allowed their version of the song to be released on their album.

The line in question is

THE FIRST LEAVES OF AUTUMN was written by Benny Gallagher & Graham Lyle, who perform under the name Gallagher & Lyle. The song is on their album "River Sessions," 2004. It was also recorded by the Fureys. (This information from Allmusic.com)

Towards the end of the final verse of this lovely song as sung by Finbar Furey is the term; (My spelling)not until... 'Sommall Kummallia'... comes round.

Another cover on Youtube has it more like 'another come-all-ye.'

Neither makes any sense to this anglophone, and I'd like to sing the song. Is it a Gaelic festival or season? Thanks.

The line in question could be:

Not until some old come-all-ye comes down

But repeating "down" two lines in a row isn't kosher....

Note the tiny difference in the chorus with the versions, the G&L 'leaves fell from place' but the Fureys 'leaves fell from space.'

I always had some difficulty interpreting Finn's English when I was a regular at the Fury's club all those years ago in Coventry.

RE: The Red Bit: In Ireland we sometimes refer to old traditional songs as "Old Come-All-Ya's" as there are so many songs that start with Come all you young fellows or Come all ya tramps and Hawkers etc, etc.

I once saw a song called Comeallye And Gobackagain in a folksong booklet handed around at school: it consisted of three verses of intro and three of outtro with nothing in between. I've never seen it since, for which I'm eternally thankful, as it had the authentically-dire nature.

Mebbe that's what sparked my interest in parody songs.
