184 miles of tarmac that hasn't yet been immortalised in song.

Sorry, dear Guest, I don't understand either, but maybe we need more road songs in Blighty. Dear old Clive, he got his own way. Skipjack

Hmmmm.
"This is the story of the North Birmingham Relief Road,
Just outside o' Birmingham there'll be a toll gate
Where you'll pay two pounds fifty so the developers who are spending seventy four million pounds a mile can make 500 percent profit in fifty years..."

Did you know they have named a street in Las Vegas after Frank Sinatra. I think they decided on Frank Sinatra Boulevard. Why on earth did they not just call it 'My Way'?

So it doesn't scan but you can't have it all.

Now lads, the Hamsters (well known rock band) did the M606. Microsoft addrsss is "1 microsoft way"
On the A631
A nightmare has just begun
There are wagons and cars
And cones for a mile
And skeletons of those who've been there a while.

By the road there's a sign
From some ministry swine
Who'se sorry for the delay
but that's no good to me
I'm late for me tea
And I've been here half a day.

It's a start Skip.....

Billy Bragg wrote a song about the A13:

A13 Trunk Road To The Sea
(Billy Bragg)

If you ever have to go to Shoeburyness
Take the A road, the okay road that's the best
Go motorin' on the A13

If you're looking for a thrill that's new
Take in Fords, Dartford Tunnel and the river too
Go motorin' on the A13

It starts down in Wapping
There ain't no stopping
By-pass Barking and straight through Dagenham
Down to Grays Thurrock
And rather near Basildon
Pitsea, Thundersley, Hadleigh, Leigh-On-Sea,
Chalkwell, Prittlewell
Southend's the end

If you ever have to go to Shoeburyness
Take the A road, the okay road that's the best
Go motorin' on the A13

Suck em all (sic) you brisk young drivers
lend an ear to my song
I'll sing you the praises
Of the A361

Getting better?

Not when the polis hide on the tops of the hills, Kit!

I done bin booked in about every county now. I've managed to clip me own wings, though, as I blew up the engine on Alfa recently. I did a whole 10,000 miles without oil (company car, no oil required) and burnt up the engine. Got a previously enjoyed recon one swung in, and got the jallopy back this Monday. Already put 730 miles on the new engine, but at running in speed!

Running in speed for an Alfa engine is less than 100mph then, Skippy? :0) Poor you...

Mind you, I picked up my *new* (previously enjoyed) car last Thursday and it had 450 miles more on the clock by Sunday- drove coast to coast Formby-Whitby and back home. Think it'll be ok- but it's not my poor written-off White Rover (*sniff*).

(singing:
I drove my White Rover for nearly a year... )

I thought this thread was such a good idea for a song challenge, that I thought I'd throw this list of places the A361 passes through into the ring. So, can we have a ballad form lyric, please, with a brief couplet of praise for the vurtues and history of each? tee hee

From the Midlands to Devon, I heard them say From Devon to the Midlands is going the wrong way You're never far from a Happy Eater, That's where I get my fix. Of rubberised bacon, on route one-three-six

Dai (or anyone else), is there any truth in the information put about in the DT entry of Too Close to the Wind , that Daventry is pronounced Dane-tree ?

I've never heard that anywhere else (though I've only ever driven through the place) and I've never heard it sung with that pronunciation either.
