Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Supper time From: topical tom Date: 06 Feb 08 - 12:14 PM Does this help? Jimmie Davis, Supper Time Tabs/Chords Looking for Jimmie Davis Lyrics? Browse alphabet (above). Artist: Davis Jimmie Song: Supper Time Jimmie Davis Sheet Music Jimmie Davis CDs SUPPER TIME Written and recorded by Jimmy Davis (slow 4/4 in key of C) Submitted by Deral L. Clour. [C] Many years a [F] go in days of [C] childhood I [G7] used to play till evening shadows [C] come Then winding down an [F] old familiar [C] pathway I [G7] heard my mother call at set of [C] sun. (chorus) Come [F] home, come [G7] home, it's supper [C] time the [G7] shadows lengthen [C] fast Come [F] home, come [G7] home, it's supper [C] time we're [G7] going home at [C] last. (recitation) Some of the fondest memories of my childhood were woven around supper time when my mother used to call from the back steps of the old home place Come on home now son it's supper time. Ah gee but I'd love to hear that once more. But you know for me time has woven the realization of a truth that is even more thrilling. And that's when the call comes from the portals of glory to come home for it's supper time. When all of God's children shall gather round the table with the Lord Himself At the greatest supper time of them all. You need someone to hum or (sing softly) the chorus While doing the recitation. Melody played on guitar will do. The recitation is rather long for the chorus You might get the singer(s) or musician to tag the chorus (repeat last line of chorus, then you won't have to hurry the recitation) Repeat chorus |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Supper time From: GUEST,Billy Date: 06 Feb 08 - 12:18 AM Hey, I"ve been searching for Jimmie Davis - suppertime for a long time, looks like I've finally found some pretty good information on the song. I, now, would likek to know if anyone can send me a sound version of the song? An elderly man in my church has been trying, for a long time, to get me to play the song on my guitar, and I've never heard it. I do have a copy of it in one of our song-books, by "Ira Stamphill", and haven't gotten anyone to play it on the piano yet, but, I'm sure it would be different than the Jimmie Davis version. So, I"d sure appreciate a sound copy of the song, PLEASE!! thanks a lot |

Stanphill copyright 1950 From Keys to the Kingdom Songs of Inspiration published in 1959 by Denson Music Publishing Co Birmingham AL Verse 1 When I was but a boy in days of childhood I used to play till evening shadows come. Then winding down an old familiar pathway I heard my mother call at set of sun. Chorus Come home, come home it's supper time. The shadows lengthen fast. Come home, come home it's supper time. We're going home at last. Verse 2 One day beside her bedside I was kneeling And angel wings were winnowing the air. She heard the call for Supper Time in heaven And now I know she's waiting for me there.
Verse 3
Ira Stanphill, one of the most prolific songwriters of this century, was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Honor in the performance category in 1997. Ira served the Assemblies of God through music ministry for over 6 decades. He wrote 600 songs and over 500 were published, including such well-known numbers as "Mansion Over the Hilltop," "Supper Time," and "Room At the Cross." He also pastored several churches and traveled extensively throughout the United States and the world. Does anyone know if a book was ever published with those 500 works of Ira Stanphill? I would like to to purchase his works. Please reply to this category if you can help.
