A DC Folkie (FSGW-Getawayer Organizer) requests our help in finding Gene Autrey Reissues/Compilations. I will search the 'net for him and provide sites and CD names, etc. But if Mudcatters would recommend favorites or available CDs it might focus his search on the best available. Thank you in advance for your help.

Regards, Fortunato.

My favorite Gene Autry compilation:

On Columbia/Legacy - CK 64987 - Gene Autry Blues Singer 1929-1931, "Booger Rooger Saturday Nite!"

Liner notes claim that Autry "actually began is illusrious career performing and writing authentic and magnificent country blues..."

It has some great stuff, including Birmingham Daddy, The Rheumatism Blues, In The Jailhouse Now No. 2, Bear Cat Papa Blues, Wildcat Mama Blues, A Yodeling Hobo, T.B. Blues, Slu-Foot Lou, Stay Away From My Chicken House, Waiting For a Train, Frankie and Johnny, My Rough and Rowdy Ways, etc. There are 23 tracks.

Mary

I have two Gene Autry CDs: "Gene Autry," Columbia Historic Edition, and "Gene Autry, His Greatest Hits." The latter is evidently produced by "Legacy International," and a free CD catalog is advertised by writing to Box 6999, Beverly Hills, CA 90212

I have "The Essential Gene Autry 1933-1946" on Columbia CK 48957.
18 tracks from 'The Yellow Rose of Texas','The Last Round-Up' through to 'Ole Faithful' and 'Red River Valley'.

Also "Gene Autry Live - First Time Recordings From 'The Melody Ranch Radio Show'"
covering the years 1940-1956 and issued by 'Peaceful Productions Inc. Fort Lee NJ 07024. This has 29 tracks and is a mixture of western and popular.

Just my two percent.
CD.

Doug..yeah, I'm blowing up right-wing computers by luring them to purported pages of cowboy songs, then infecting them with Mad Horse virus! *grin*

seriously, that page is on GeoCities, which is an insidious, nosey, pop-up setting, money-grubbing and VERY tedious host! It works for me, but I use lots of safeguards, and still have to hit 'stop' before it quits trying to load more shit unrelated to the page on me...sorry it wouldn't work for you, there are some good songs there.
