Aww. Dang it anyway! I wish I could have been there. Been to Cheyenne. I love Wyoming, especially Lander County. Cheyenne is my least favorite Wyoming town but I'll bet I'd a left there loving that overgrown rail yard if I could have been banjoing with ya! Nice to be able to put faces on you folks. Odd thing. I sort of "knew" how Kat and Sorcha would look!?! I hope that there WILL be a next time, especially in Wyoming. I'll fire up the coyotemobile and come on up I-80 next gathering ya have.

Ah, Rex, thanks. I can't tell you how pleasurable it was to hear you and the others make music. Just one of those very Magical Mudcat Music Moments which fortunately lasted for a lot longer!

Just wanted all to know that Sorcha's pix and mine, which I'd put on my site, are now on the Members Resources pages. Pene Azul put them up in the wee hours of last night after Max, the WunderKind, rebooted us into cyberdom. THANKS JEFF AND MAX!! Great PIX, Sorcha!

I always thought that Art's cowboy version of Barbary Allen was mighty keen. It was especially so to hear Kat sing it in the town where I'm told Art learned it. Mmmm,Mmmm.

I forgot to say that Bert, bless his heart had copies of his CD for all of us. Even signed them. Well it was a couple days later that I put it on and my boys were playing in the living room. Boom! their attention was right there and they listened to the entire disk. I was a little concerned when "Size Doesn't Matter" came on but Bert is a gentleman and was quite discreet. I don't think they got "Silicone Cindy". Or the "Pickle". When it was done (I loved the "Old Sow Song", nicely done Bert) I asked what they thought of it since they had paid such rapt attention to it. Ben (12 yrs. old) said, "Actually, he has a nice singing voice". And Daniel (all of 9) said, "Not bad". And that Bert, he reserves for only the highest praise. So you won my kids over as well as me. I forgot to say too how I appreciated you singing your "I'm Your Flag" up in Cheyenne. These days, songs like that really help things along.

Rex

Just got to borrow a computer again. WOW! that was great time. I got so many hugs that I broke my glasses which were hanging 'round my neck. Fortunately they wer only of the dollar store variety.

It was very difficult to leave. We really needed another three days together to catch up on all the gossip and to sing all the songs that we didn't have time for.

Now listen Mick, Just 'cos you don't have the intestinal fortitude to wear a shiny shirt...

I forgot to say thanks to ya'll for letting me sing Art Thieme's cowboy version of Barbara Allen. I know it wasn't the same bar in Cheyenne where he got it from Del Bray in the 1960's, but it sure felt good to at least sing it in the same town! Thanks for the collectin', Art!

Still walking on air.

It was so cool to talk with you all on the phone. Not nearly as cool as if I'd actually been there, but what fun.

I like both the Presto band and the Sudswillers -- maybe swap off?

Ok, if you do it again in a few months, maybe I can get myself back there for a long weekend and someone can pick me up at the Denver airport on their way to Cheyenne.

Good pix, Kat.

I'm sort of amazed that we pulled that off so well. It's an amazing thing for several of us to come together. Most of us never meeting before, and yet we know each other. It was great to finally meet Sorcha, Kat, Rog and Bert. Now here's Kat talking about being Dorothy and we was all there. Aw gee whiz. Good to see Bluejay again. EJ? ah I see him all the time. But we need to play more music together. It was might nice of WyoWoman to call too. The barkeep came in with a phone all excited and I wondered what that was all about. What a fine surprise. Got plenty of songs and tunes done. I heard a little griping about the food, and maybe the kinda flat Bud brew. Well my second favorite thing to eat is an elk steak with maybe a Guinness. My favorite is free food and beer and there was plenty of it. Those folks treated us mighty nice. True, later they got into the football game and we found a fine place to move to. The beer kept coming. I'm not sure who was buying that. Sorcha, if it was you, I owe you a pitcher or two. Ol Cheyenne Dave was quite a surprise. He claimed he hadn't played the fiddle in 20 years. Once he got going he had it. I wish I had a bow arm like that. And what a character. He recognized the most sublime things in music, yet he was like 30 grit sandpaper. Coarser than Spaw! Heh. I sure am grateful that Sorcha put this together. On the long ride back home I think that EJ and I were floating on a cloud. We done did this gathering right.

Rex

Kat- thanks for the pix, I'm anxious for more. What a great time. When I walked in, LEJ was playing his 12 string, and he said, "I sure am glad to see you- been playing for hours. I've got blisters on my fingers"!

Though we'd never met, Kat and I knew each other instantly. Talk about old home week. Rex, Leej and I have played together twice now,(in as many years). Does that qualify as regular rehearsals?

So much great music from everyone, and the warm reception from the local unsuspecting strangers- who'd have thunk it?

And a real highlight was WyoWoman's surprise phone call. We all passed the phone around and it was wonderful to catch up with her in real time.

Sorcha- I talked to the manager Judy this morning, and reiterated all of our thanks. She said, "Hey, I want you all to come back every month". Not bad. Thanks for getting this organized, Sorcha. BlueJay

Oh, yea, Cheyenne Dave--got a great pic of him playing my Maggie with Rex--amazing stuff coming out of that fiddle. Can't remember the "breakdown" they played. It wasn't Chinese or Foggy Mtn, but way cool. They went back into the bar from the dining room and did a duet.......20 yrs my ass. Maybe he will quit hanging out in the silly bar and go looking for a fiddle.

My pics are developed and will be in the mail to kat in the AM. Should be available in a few days. Mail is pretty fast between here and Casper.

For all of you Greenies, the food was NOT great--Football Sunday bar food. Chile, beans, sloppy joes, polish sausage, baby sausage in BBQ----kat was left totally out in the cold. If we use this venue again, we will make other arrangements for food. Deli trays, carry-in, anything. What a Magical Mudcat Moment......and people say Magic doesn't really exist........(kat, don't tell them I kept asking "How many can I take home with me?")......grin!!

Okay, we are home. I am going to go take a nap, BUT just to keep ya interested I have posted some photos HERE until we can get some better ones scanned in.

Please keep in mind the first one of the whole group was taken by Cheyenne Dave, who was at least 3, if not 6 or 7 sheets to the wind, who'd said he'd come take the piccies, if Sorcha let him play with her...um, her fiddle. I'll let her tell you about that Mudcat Magic Moment, it was sheer joy to see that man open up, going from "I ain't played in 20 years" to what we heard. You tell 'em Sorcha!

My digital has no flash, so the pix aren't that great, BUT Sorcha got lots and I have a few on my 35mm which I will get processed and scanned in asap.

There is so much to tell. I'll leave you with this for now, I finally got to meet some more of the family I have known I had ever since coming to the Mudcat. I feel like Dorothy after she wakes up and she points to each of the guys and Aunt Em and says "Bert, you were there, and Rex, you, too, and OH! LeeJ, you came, too! BlueJay, you, too! And, Sorcha, you were there, too! And, it was so wonderful, there's no place like home!"

OK, I'm gonna try. (I just got my elbow injected--!@#$%^&*!!--so it may be short. Rog, kat, Rex, LEJ,BlueJay, Bert and I had a wunnerful, wunnerful time. of course. BlueJay, kat and Rog stayed at the motel, the rest of us drove back home last nite.

Rex and LEJ arrived first, I was about 15 mins behind them. Rog and kat next, about 12:30. Bert arrived about 3, BlueJay about 4. He had a LONG drive.

Noon to 3 PM the tv's were on, but sound down. Very small bar crowd and they loved us. Thought we were a "real" band and wanted us back every month(?) About 3rd quarter of the ball game a few more people arrived to watch the game and asked for the tv to b turned up. Barmaid and other customers said NO! We tried to keep playing, but it was getting a little noisy, so we moved into the unoccupied dining room. Kat was happier there, anyway, because there was no smoke. (Restaurant is closed for remodeling.)The light was better there, too.

We hugged, we played, we sang, we BS'd, we drank beer (well, Bud Lite--the folks that were requesting songs were buying),we all looked like we "bin hit in the mouf wit a broad axe". Old friends. None of the people in the bar could believe this was the first time we had ever played together.

Took lots of pics, both digital and print. We'll get them up as soon as we can. Bert says he would like to come to the Springs every 3 mos, but doesn't know if that is possible. Plans were made to try to get to Aurora to hear Seamus on Friday. Bert and fam are going, I don't know yet.........

We are going to do it again, probably farther south next time so BlueJay doesn't have to drive so far. I'm exhausted but oh, frabjous day!! More later from the others, I am sure.
