Singing at Buntingford?

Next weekend - that's 16th to 18th November - is the annual sing-in at The Crown, Buntingford, in Hertfordshire (England). Indoor camping at the Scout Hut, good beer and good breakfasts in the pub, and singarounds all weekend in the room at the back. (With a few tune sessions in the bar probably as well. Unlike some places nobody brings up the vexed issue of Public Entertainment Licences round Buntingford. Touch wood.)

At least one other Mudcatter has said he is going to be there, and probably a few more. So if you are going to be there, own up here. And if you think you'd like to and would like to know more, ask away.

From what I've heard, the fame of the event is spreading, and at least one group is planning to come down from Yorkshire ( bleedin' northerers!) for a session of Sheffield carols.

See you tomorrow. Wrap up warm if you are indoor camping. It's cold in the Scout Hut. And it's cold in Buntingford too, on the walk to and from it. But it's cosy enough in The Crown.

Sheffield Carols - now that's brilliant. I'll never forget Christmas in August in the Balfour at Sidmouth with Ian Russell and cronies. Maybe we can ignite a new tradition in Buntingford.

Christmas in August during Whitby Folk Week last year was pretty fab too. There are even some photos of it on Mudcat. Will be doing the real carols on Sunday and I can't wait.

Well in my case I'd have missed having my car vandalised by local yobboes when I foolishly parked it in the scout hut car park. But the singing was great anyway. And the beer.

Excellent do - I just wish I could have strayed longer and seen more, other than two flying visits. 'Catters Keith of Hertford and McGrath of Harlow both on fine form with good songs in good voice.

Gulp! Sorry Llanfranc - I didn't realise you were there!
I always assumed that with a Mudcat name like Llanfranc you'd be halfway up a mountain on the other side of Offa's dyke (ouch - left myself open to a dose of double entendre there!)
Put me out of my misery please; who are you in the real world - and if you are one of the duet, wow, what wonderful stuff!!

Oh, Gervase, I forgive you! I was the one-piece duo with a beard and a guitar sitting in the smokers' corner on your left. We met before, when Susan and Dick of the DT were over. I must be eminently forgettable.

I wonder if I should change my handle, it is a bit of a conceit. My given name is Alan Francis, take off the A and the cis, and you have the name of a mediaeval Archbishop of Canterbury, Lanfranc (one L, not Ll as in Llanfair, who's a lady, which I'm not!) I avoid mountains, and never fancied Offa's dyke, or anyone else's for that matter. I used my own name when I joined Mudcat originally, but everyone else seemed to have a pseudonym, so I changed. I agree about the two-piece duo ladies, though, they were something else.

I wish I could have been there too. But it's a long way from Western Australia. I used to cycle to Buntingford through the lanes frome Stevenage when I lived there as a little lad (late 50's - early 60's). It was a beautiful little village back then (as they all were in that neck of the woods). Ah! the nostalgia of it all!

I don't think it's changed too much since then. Except they closed the railway, and the road through it is pedestrianised.
