Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I GOT A HOME IN-DAT ROCK (I, II) From: Dicho (Frank Staplin) Date: 10 Nov 01 - 01:30 PM I errored in the title. It should be "I got a home in-a dat rock." (I got a home in the rock also often used. Any quick fix? |

Subject: Lyr Add: GOD GAVE NOAH THE RAINBOW SIGN From: Dicho (Frank Staplin) Date: 12 Nov 01 - 04:23 PM GOD GAVE NOAH THE RAINBOW SIGN (I've Got a Home in That Rock) I've got a home in that rock, Don't you see? (Don't you see?) I've got a home in that rock, Don't you see? I've got a home in that rock, Just beyond the mountain top, Tide me over, Rock of Ages, cleft for me. God gave Noah the rainbow sign, Don't you see? (Don't you see?) God gave Noah the rainbow sign, Don't you see? God gave Noah the rainbow sign, No more water, but the fire next time, Tide me over, Rock of Ages, cleft for me. Old Lazarus, poor as I, Dont' you see? (Don't you see?) Old Lazarus, poor as I, Don't you see? Old Lazarus, poor as I, When he died he had a home on high, Tide me over, Rock of Ages, cleft for me. East and west the fire will roll, Hide thou me (Hide thou me) East and west the fire will roll, Hide thou me. How will it be with my poor soul, Tide me over, Rock of Ages, cleft for me. When the world's all on fire, Hide thou me (Hide thou me) When the world's all on fire, Hide thou me. When this world's all on fire, Let thy bosom be my pillow, Tide me over, Rock of Ages, cleft for me. The Carter Family, Alvin Pleasant, wife Sara and cousin Maybelle. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I GOT A HOME IN-DAT ROCK (I, II) From: masato sakurai Date: 12 Nov 01 - 11:32 PM Charles Wolfe says, "God Gave Noah The Rainbow Sign ... might have come from an old hymn book, Sara thought, but no likely candidates have so far surfaced." (Notes to The Carter Family: In the Shadow of Clinch Mountain, Bear Family). ~Masato |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I GOT A HOME IN-DAT ROCK (I, II) From: Dicho (Frank Staplin) Date: 12 Nov 01 - 11:54 PM The phrase "Hide Thou Me" in the Carter song does not ring true for a spiritual. I have not seen the versions in Diton, "Thirty-six South Carolina Spirituals"; Kennedy, "Mellows"; or White, "Forty Negro Spirituals." |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I GOT A HOME IN-DAT ROCK (I, II) From: Mrrzy Date: 13 Nov 01 - 01:17 PM I like this one, always reminded me of the OTHER Weavers' song, something about I don't want (I don't want=Lee Hayes) to get adjusted (get adjusted=Lee) to this world (to this world) to this world (to this world) - I got a home that's so much better I'm gonna go to sooner or later I don't want to get adjusted to this world. Anybody (masato sakurai?) remember how that one starts? |
Subject: Lyr Add: I DON'T WANT TO GET ADJUSTED From: masato sakurai Date: 13 Nov 01 - 06:43 PM Mrrzy. Here it is.
I DON'T WANT TO GET ADJUSTED
In this world of toil and trouble;
I don't want to get adjusted
