a while ago i was looking for this gospel tune... no luck. jack (who is called jack) came up with the chorus:

I don't feel no ways tired
I've come too far from where I started from
Nobody told me
That the road would be easy
I don't believe he brought me this far to leave me

but not the verses. i found a couple sound clips on CDnow and similar places, but none were good enough quality to catch the melody, or long enough to catch the words. the guy at the gospel archives couldn't help me either. grrr.

ideas anyone?

This is another song the Men's Chorus at Union Baptist in Stamford sings... from a different source. Probably a more modern version of the song..

"I Don't Feel No Ways Tired" Jerry mentioned is in Songs of Zion (p. 175), which says the writer is Curtis Burrell (arr. by Kenneth Morris). It was sung by Delois Barrett Campbell and the Barrett Sisters in the documentary film Say Amen, Somebody (1983). Great rendition.

There's a related song titled "I don't feel no-ways tired" in Hampton and Its Students (1872, p. 228, with tune).

"I Don't Feel No-Ways Tired" becomes "I Am Seeking For A City" in Dett, Religious Folk Songs..., p. 36-37.

A much simpler version appears in Allen, Slave Songs of the United States, # 90, p. 70, under the title "I Don't Feel Weary." (with tune)

The Cleveland Index suggests a similarity with Allen, "Don't be Weary, Traveler," p. 75, but except for the line "don't be weary," there is little in common. The Index also states that "I Don't Feel No Ways Tired" also appears in Penner, Prey, and Johnson (Green Pastures Spirituals).
