Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I Want To Moan Right On That Shore From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 15 Nov 01 - 04:12 PM Hi, Dicho: Different sources, same songs. I find it interesting that you're posting prison versions, and field recordings of songs, and I'm pulling them off of black gospel quartet recordings. This song was recorded, among others, by the Soul Stirrers, with Sam Cooke singing lead. Guess I'll have to pull out my CD and write down the lyrics. At this point, I'll hae a whole shead of songs for the Gospel Messengers to learn.. I'll get back, after I get the time to write down the words.. Jerry |
Subject: Lyr Add: I'M GONNA BUILD ON THAT SHORE From: masato sakurai Date: 17 Nov 01 - 08:27 AM Jerry, I'll post the words.
I'M GONNA BUILD ON THAT SHORE
Well, I'm gonna build right on that shore,
I'm gonna pray right on that shore,
Well, I was walking down the road one day,
Just let me build right on that shore,
Let me pray right on that shore,
Well, I stood upright and I stood for God,
I can't turn back and won't turn around,
Let me stand right on that shore,
Well, when this building is completed,
Just so I can feast at Zion,
Well, I'm gonna build right on that shore,

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I Want To Moan Right On That Shore From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 17 Nov 01 - 12:52 PM Thanks, Masato: I was just heading down stairs to pull out one of my Soul Stirrers CDs to transcribe the lyrics. You saved me a little time. Now that I think of it, I think that I'll post a thread asking for the lyrics to I'm Determined by the non-Sam Cooke Soul Stirrers. Maybe you have them. It's a real pleasure seeing you all over the place. I never see you ask a question. I assume that's because you alread have everything that you want or need. If not, if I have anything I can share with you, let me know. Jerry |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I Want To Moan Right On That Shore From: Rick Fielding Date: 17 Nov 01 - 12:57 PM Before I started listening to a lot of "source" recordings, I heard Sonny Terry sing that one accompanied by Pete seeger. Loved it, learned it, still sing it. Rick |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I Want To Moan Right On That Shore From: GUEST,Chris Anderson Date: 18 Aug 15 - 09:26 AM I have three recordings of Sonny Terry's doing this. 1) the one mentioned with Pete Seeger 2) one where he is alone on his HARMONICA & VOCALS SOLO Folkways EP 3) one with BROWNIE McGee on their gospel album. They are all great but I am prejudice and love Sonny Terry. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I Want To Moan Right On That Shore From: GUEST,Rahima Alee Date: 26 Sep 17 - 07:37 PM Thanks for the lyrics. Im not a musician. I love old time gospel music, especially groups. I get cds and I like to get the words to sing along. Could you refer me to books or articles about histor of gospel singers or groups, particularly obscure groups that never made it into mainstream? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I Want To Moan Right On That Shore From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Sep 17 - 01:59 AM Hi, Rahima - A lot of the gospel songs that have been recorded, are not available in hymnals or songbooks. You might like the five-volume Country & Western Gospel Hymnal, which does have a lot of the songs that show up on recordings. I don't know of a good book about gospel singers, but the Wikipedia page on American Gospel Singers will keep you busy for a long, long time. -Joe- |
