Lyric request Has any one got the lyrics for, or can point me in the right direction for the Dubliners song "Cuanla" The chorus I believe is as:

Chorus Cuanla dear don't come any near me, Cuanla dear don't come any near me, Cuanla dear don't come any near me, Maybe I shouldn't said Cuanla

All the best ferret

It's in the DT (in English) as "Cunnla" and a Supersearch for "Cunla" will turn up some threads, one of which has the Irish lyrics. Sorry, to time to do blue clickies at the moment.

What is that song about, anyway. I'm familiar with it but it's kind of strange!

Clinton, it's been posted before. Read my post and do as Ferret did and all will be revealed in the fullness of time. *G* No sense cluttering up the forum when it's been posted before.

As Jeff says.  Since this thread is now part of the permanent archive, however, I may as well give a list for those who can't cope with search engines.

Cúnnla:  Irish Gaelic lyric with English translation.
Cunla (Gaelic)
Cunla lyrics:  Gaelic only.
Cunnla in original (gaelic):  Gaelic only.
CUNNLA:  English only; from Joe Heaney; with midi.

Maryrrf, when I've heard it sung, the

'who is that there a-tickling the toes of me?'

is followed by

'who is that there a-tickling the thighs of me?'

and so on and so on...which has maybe seemed too risqué to be included in the previously posted lyrics.

BTW, the top link of Malcolm's takes you to a post a bit below the lyrics- scroll up to find them.

Planxty did a version on 'The Well Below The Valley' - but stopped before things got REALLY intersting.

There is a CD, 'Amhráin ar an Sean-nós', a compilation of singers and songs from the Gaeltacht districts, with a version of 'Cúnla' as a duet between Joe Heaney and Seamas Ennis. Its sung in Irish and English and its really excellent. It was put out by RTÉ but no date given (RTÉ CD 185). Might make a nice Xmas present for someone who is not familiar with sean-nós but wants to become acquainted with it.
