Friday November 10th
8:00pm
Wild Hog In The Woods Coffeehouse
at the Wil-Mar Center
953 Jenifer St.
in Madison
$2.00 for members $2.50 for non-members

Those are the bare bones facts about the Wild Hog gig. The extra fun part is that the whole show will be recorded live for my next CD," The Ghost of Thirsty Joe and Other Stories". I'd love to have you there to be part of it. I'm usually kind of lively any way, but if there's somebody recording it I get wilder and crazier than is normal even for me.

I'll be doing my own songs like Porchlight Blues, and Trucker's Secret (Turn To The Right),
covers of work from other fine songwriters such as Aaron Nathan's Fire on the Prairie, and Nancy Rost's Boscobel.

There will also be lots of newer stuff like Alan Moorhouse's We Will Walk, some new verses for You Can't Do It All It All On Your Own (which I wrote with Alan Moorhouse and Sandy Andina).

Comedy, of course will be a big part of the show. We may even have a visit from "The Lizard".

I hope that you'll join me on Nov. 10th. We're going to have one heck of a good time!!

Be well. Do good.

Stephen L. Rich

If you are looking for a full day of amazing music and energy then support Friends of Minesing Wetlands and come on out to

MINESING UNPLUGGED WETLAND FESTIVAL

WHEN?: Saturday June 10th, 2006

WHERE?: Grenfel Pavilion (10 min west of Barrie, ON)

For those of you who do not live in Barrie, trust me when I say that this day will be worth the drive! It is a green event though so we are avid supporters of car pooling.

ALSO - you have the opportunity to show up in style a la PARTY MOBILE – Just $20 on top of the festival ticket to take a bus from Toronto to Barrie and back.

There are limited spaces available to act quick for this opportunity.
Bus will be leaving from the Tranzac Club (Brunswick and Bloor) at 10:30 am and returning after the festival (approx 1am).

Also, Georgian college has agreed to put together a package deal for us for the night before and of the event in their summer suites residences. I don't have final pricing on this but we are looking at somewhere in the range of $62, $72, $82 for 2, 4, 6 people suites respectively (and this is before we put the package deal together so prices will be lower).

WHO?: incredible Lineup

The Silver Hearts
DALA
The Undesirables
Jory Nash
Greg Hobbs
Angie Nussey
Treasa Levasseur
Rae Spoon
Don't Panic
R.T. Cooke
Clifford Rutledge

WHY?: Help Support the Friends of Minesing Wetlands with our
effort to increase public awareness and support for the Minesing Wetlands.

The Minesing Wetlands is a 15,000 acre provincially significant wetland complex that has been recognized under the Ramsar Convention as being internationally significant, placing it in a class alongside the Florida Everglades and the Baltic Marshes of the USSR.
The Friends are a non profit organization dedicated to protecting the ecological integrity of Minesing Swamp and its supporting watershed. The Friends are currently in the middle of a significant fundraising initiative to raise money for the completion of an intensive flora and fauna inventory of the Minesing Wetlands.

This inventory will serve as a crucial ingredient in the campaign to have Minesing Wetlands designated as a World Biosphere Reserve.

WHAT ELSE?: Besides Toe-Tapping Live Music all day enjoy the following:

: Artisan Craft Market
: Environmental Informative Displays
: Alternative Energy Displays
: Family Activities: face painting, children play area, bouncy frogs, workshops
: Free Music and Yoga Workshops

HOW?: thanks to the time of a handful of dedicated volunteers
This is 100% volunteer organized and run event!

Oh: you meant How to buy your tickets?
Call the NVCA office at 705 424-1479 x 221 or 241(that's me) for VISA or Mastercard orders over the phone

For those of you in Barrie – BJ's Records and Nostalgia will be selling them as well as Music Pro (south end)

Those of you in Toronto – Sam the Record Man and the Tranzac Club are selling

How Much?: I know you were thinking it..
All this and more for only $25 in advance or $30 at the gate
Group Packages are available : if you buy 10 tickets you get one free! How sweet is that?!~

Children 10 and under are free

All proceeds go to Friends of Minesing Wetlands

More Details: …

: This event will run RAIN OR SHINE – the stage is under a pavilion so the performers and the audience will be protected by the rain

: I ask that if you are planning to come – buy your tickets early – that way I get to sleep a few days before the show so I can enjoy it too

: We are also raffling off a 16ft Scott Prospector Canoe with two Grey Owl paddles (graciously donated by Sojourns in Barrie) buy your tickets ahead of time or at the festival where the draw will take place

: feel free to pass this email on to anyone and everyone you know

If you have any questions drop me a line

Thanks for your support. Just think how much fun we'll all have on June 10th!!! Hope to see you all there.

For catters in UK southeast, to test the effect of impromptu sessions, I will be having a picnic lunch this Sunday 5th June (provided it's not raining) at Whatman park, Maidstone, Kent...near the Millennium Theatre, by the river.

If anyone should chance to appear with voice, or instrument, well that would be fortuitous, wouldn't it?

Who knows, an impromptu session might develop, and that would be fun.

Of course, I can't organise it, as that carries a penalty of up to £ 20,000, or six months in jail, but I can't stop anyone from joining in, can I?

Don T.

Attention friends and fans of Sara Grey! David sent me this note yesterday. Joanne

From: David Warren warrens@pathcom.com
Reply-To: David Warren warrens@pathcom.com
Subject: Direct from Scotland - SARA GREY (with Kieron Means) -Tuesday June 14, 8:00 pm @ David Warren's house in Toronto

(Direct from Scotland)
SARA GREY with KIERON MEANS
Tues. June 14, 8:00 pm
Tickets are $20 at the door (reservations required; space is limited)
This is a house concert. Please email me for reservations and directions if interested.

Sara Grey, one of the most gifted and knowledgeable artists working in the field of traditional music. Sara's singing is both powerful and sweet, with a distinctive and lovely tremolo. It is a voice well suited to native American songs and ballads of Ireland and Scotland.
"She is one of a select band of performers who still breathe life into traditional ballads." - Vic Smith, Folk Roots

On Kieron Means, Brian Peters (Living Tradition Magazine) writes: "Where so many of the young folk musicians of today dazzle us with their instrumental virtuosity or flatter our ears with their vocal purity, Means delivers a much rarer virtue: a true passion for the music he plays. He sings the songs because he loves them and while his stage presence carries undoubted charisma, his work betrays no hint of artifice or pretension. Kieron Means has soul and I can think of no greater compliment to pay to a singer of folk songs".

Thanks to Ian Davies for letting me use his promo. David Warren

Hope the Slaters has decent beer these days, when I lived in Stamford it was a very grim Watney's pub if memory serves me right. That aside, I hope this night proves a success and if I'm ever back in my old stamping ground would love to pay a visit.

As always, catch most of us most Thursdays at The Magazine Folk Club, Wallasey, Magazine Lane, Wallasey, Wirral. It's an informal singaround session with a great variety of singers and instrumentalists. It starts at around 9.00pm.

The other venue we frequent is the West Cheshire Sailing Club 'Folk Ahoy', 1st Friday of the month. Details below.

Details to follow:

Pacific Road Theatre gig with The Miv Cameron Band

The Picket, Liverpool.

For more details of any of the events below, use the e-mail button on the left or

We recommend checking before travelling.

We are pretty busy with private gigs at the moment, but are now looking forward to the following public gigs:

Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th June 2003,
Mersey River Festival
We have been invited to play at the Woodside Ferry Terminal, from 12 until 3pm, as part of a load of events taking place on the Wirral side of the Mersey. Unplugged in a big room with nice acoustics. Lots of other things going on, including our friends the small-top circus, and the Wallasey Steel Band, to name but two. Ahoy there shipmates!

Friday July 4th 2003
The monthly folk evening at The West Cheshire Sailing Club, Ocean Drive, Wallasey, Wirral, hosted by Reckless Elbow. It's an informal folk night with music from about 9.00pm 'till late. Real fire, candles on tables and friendly atmosphere. What better than a lovely warm summer evening, with a beautiful sunset over the Irish Sea (visible from the bar window!), accompanied by the best of Wirral folk music, and beyond!

Friday 11th and Saturday 12th July 2003
The Bull Bay Charity Folk Festival, Bull Bay, Anglesey. A great weekend of music-making and fund-raising for local charities, centred at the Bull Bay Hotel. It actually starts on the Friday at the Golf Club, but the remainder is based at the hotel. Extended this year to include the Sunday night. Good music, food and beer, lovely scenery. Camping available.

Tuesday July 29th 2003
"Where it all began", a gig in a favourite pub, the Infamous 'Stanley's Cask', Rake Lane, Wallasey, Wirral. An unplugged gig, a traditional feel and lovely beer to drink. Anyone welcome to join in. Bring your voices and instruments! 9.00pm, free entry.

Friday August 1st 2003
The monthly folk evening at The West Cheshire Sailing Club, Ocean Drive, Wallasey, Wirral, hosted by Reckless Elbow. It's an informal folk night with music from about 9.00pm 'till late. Real fire, candles on tables and friendly atmosphere. What better than a lovely warm summer evening, with a beautiful sunset over the Irish Sea (visible from the bar window!), accompanied by the best of Wirral folk music, and beyond! Kids off school? Mates on holiday? Get away from it all at The West Cheshire!

Wednesday August 13th 2003
A one off gig, unplugged, at The Albion Hotel, New Brighton, Wallasey, Wirral. We have played many gigs here before and it is a good venue. Come and join in if you like. Music from 9.30, free entry.

Saturday August 16th 2003
Once again we play on the big stage at the Moelfre Lifeboat Day, Angelesy, to raise money for the R.N.L.I. Our friends, Pigs Ear (or maybe the duo, Pork Scratchings), will be on at about 2.30pm, then it's the lifeboat display, and we'll be on about 4pm. it's a great fun day and for a good cause. Camping available.

Sunday August 24th 2003
We're playing at our favourite Lake District pub, The Eagle and Child at Staveley, between Kendal and Windermere. Join us for informal fun, good food and great beer. Free, on about 9pm, until late (Bank Holiday the next day). Check out the links page for the pub.

Wednesday September 10th 2003
Our own Phil will be doing a guest slot at The Bromborough Folk Club, in The Bridge Inn, Port Sunlight. Once in a while, instead of having a regular singers night, they start with a singers night and then put on a 'local folk celebrity' - on this night it wil be Phil. It's always a free entry at this club but the raffle is compulsory! The evening starts at about 8.45 and Phil will do the last 30-45 minutes, including some songs from his forthcoming CD. Check out the Links page for the personal website of Phil.

Friday September 19th 2003
A favourite local venue of ours, The Albion, Albion Street, New Brighton, Wirral. A gig featuring US! Previous gigs have been a great success with lots of people and a brilliant atmosphere. We hope you can join us for an entertaining evening. Details to follow - why not join the mailing list for up to date information?

Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September 2003
The end of the infamous 'Clipper' Round the World Yacht Race. The Liverpool clipper, skippered by our mate Adam, will be returning to Liverpool, hopefully in first place on the Saturday. Most of us will be playing at The Woodside Ferry Terminal Cafe as part of a whole host of activities to welcome the ships home. We'll be there from 10.30 till about 3 on Saturday and 12.00 till 2 on Sunday.

Tuesday September 30th 2003
After the resounding success in April, another "Where it all began" gig in our favourite pub, the brillant 'Stanley's Cask', Rake Lane, Wallasey, Wirral. An unplugged gig, a traditional feel and lovely beer to drink. Anyone welcome to join in. Bring your voices and instruments! 9.00pm, free entry.

Jo, our new fiddle player, will be there!

Friday October 3rd 2003
The monthly folk evening, despite a recent fire, will be held at the WEST CHESHIRE SAILING CLUB on Ocean Road, off Harrison Drive, New Brighton. It's an informal folk night with music from about 9.00pm 'till late. Candles on tables (not sure this is wise!) and friendly atmosphere. The best of Wirral folk music, and beyond! Please try to support this club who have got a new room ready through substantial renovations.
