Attention friends and fans of Sara Grey! David sent me this note yesterday. Joanne

From: David Warren warrens@pathcom.com
Reply-To: David Warren warrens@pathcom.com
Subject: Direct from Scotland - SARA GREY (with Kieron Means) -Tuesday June 14, 8:00 pm @ David Warren's house in Toronto

(Direct from Scotland)
SARA GREY with KIERON MEANS
Tues. June 14, 8:00 pm
Tickets are $20 at the door (reservations required; space is limited)
This is a house concert. Please email me for reservations and directions if interested.

Sara Grey, one of the most gifted and knowledgeable artists working in the field of traditional music. Sara's singing is both powerful and sweet, with a distinctive and lovely tremolo. It is a voice well suited to native American songs and ballads of Ireland and Scotland.
"She is one of a select band of performers who still breathe life into traditional ballads." - Vic Smith, Folk Roots

On Kieron Means, Brian Peters (Living Tradition Magazine) writes: "Where so many of the young folk musicians of today dazzle us with their instrumental virtuosity or flatter our ears with their vocal purity, Means delivers a much rarer virtue: a true passion for the music he plays. He sings the songs because he loves them and while his stage presence carries undoubted charisma, his work betrays no hint of artifice or pretension. Kieron Means has soul and I can think of no greater compliment to pay to a singer of folk songs".

Thanks to Ian Davies for letting me use his promo. David Warren

For catters in UK southeast, to test the effect of impromptu sessions, I will be having a picnic lunch this Sunday 5th June (provided it's not raining) at Whatman park, Maidstone, Kent...near the Millennium Theatre, by the river.

If anyone should chance to appear with voice, or instrument, well that would be fortuitous, wouldn't it?

Who knows, an impromptu session might develop, and that would be fun.

Of course, I can't organise it, as that carries a penalty of up to £ 20,000, or six months in jail, but I can't stop anyone from joining in, can I?

If you are looking for a full day of amazing music and energy then support Friends of Minesing Wetlands and come on out to

MINESING UNPLUGGED WETLAND FESTIVAL

WHEN?: Saturday June 10th, 2006

WHERE?: Grenfel Pavilion (10 min west of Barrie, ON)

For those of you who do not live in Barrie, trust me when I say that this day will be worth the drive! It is a green event though so we are avid supporters of car pooling.

ALSO - you have the opportunity to show up in style a la PARTY MOBILE – Just $20 on top of the festival ticket to take a bus from Toronto to Barrie and back.

There are limited spaces available to act quick for this opportunity.
Bus will be leaving from the Tranzac Club (Brunswick and Bloor) at 10:30 am and returning after the festival (approx 1am).

Also, Georgian college has agreed to put together a package deal for us for the night before and of the event in their summer suites residences. I don't have final pricing on this but we are looking at somewhere in the range of $62, $72, $82 for 2, 4, 6 people suites respectively (and this is before we put the package deal together so prices will be lower).

WHO?: incredible Lineup

The Silver Hearts
DALA
The Undesirables
Jory Nash
Greg Hobbs
Angie Nussey
Treasa Levasseur
Rae Spoon
Don't Panic
R.T. Cooke
Clifford Rutledge

WHY?: Help Support the Friends of Minesing Wetlands with our
effort to increase public awareness and support for the Minesing Wetlands.

The Minesing Wetlands is a 15,000 acre provincially significant wetland complex that has been recognized under the Ramsar Convention as being internationally significant, placing it in a class alongside the Florida Everglades and the Baltic Marshes of the USSR.
The Friends are a non profit organization dedicated to protecting the ecological integrity of Minesing Swamp and its supporting watershed. The Friends are currently in the middle of a significant fundraising initiative to raise money for the completion of an intensive flora and fauna inventory of the Minesing Wetlands.

This inventory will serve as a crucial ingredient in the campaign to have Minesing Wetlands designated as a World Biosphere Reserve.

WHAT ELSE?: Besides Toe-Tapping Live Music all day enjoy the following:

: Artisan Craft Market
: Environmental Informative Displays
: Alternative Energy Displays
: Family Activities: face painting, children play area, bouncy frogs, workshops
: Free Music and Yoga Workshops

HOW?: thanks to the time of a handful of dedicated volunteers
This is 100% volunteer organized and run event!

Oh: you meant How to buy your tickets?
Call the NVCA office at 705 424-1479 x 221 or 241(that's me) for VISA or Mastercard orders over the phone

For those of you in Barrie – BJ's Records and Nostalgia will be selling them as well as Music Pro (south end)

Those of you in Toronto – Sam the Record Man and the Tranzac Club are selling

How Much?: I know you were thinking it..
All this and more for only $25 in advance or $30 at the gate
Group Packages are available : if you buy 10 tickets you get one free! How sweet is that?!~

Children 10 and under are free

All proceeds go to Friends of Minesing Wetlands

More Details: …

: This event will run RAIN OR SHINE – the stage is under a pavilion so the performers and the audience will be protected by the rain

: I ask that if you are planning to come – buy your tickets early – that way I get to sleep a few days before the show so I can enjoy it too

: We are also raffling off a 16ft Scott Prospector Canoe with two Grey Owl paddles (graciously donated by Sojourns in Barrie) buy your tickets ahead of time or at the festival where the draw will take place

: feel free to pass this email on to anyone and everyone you know

If you have any questions drop me a line

Thanks for your support. Just think how much fun we'll all have on June 10th!!! Hope to see you all there.

Friday November 10th
8:00pm
Wild Hog In The Woods Coffeehouse
at the Wil-Mar Center
953 Jenifer St.
in Madison
$2.00 for members $2.50 for non-members

Those are the bare bones facts about the Wild Hog gig. The extra fun part is that the whole show will be recorded live for my next CD," The Ghost of Thirsty Joe and Other Stories". I'd love to have you there to be part of it. I'm usually kind of lively any way, but if there's somebody recording it I get wilder and crazier than is normal even for me.

I'll be doing my own songs like Porchlight Blues, and Trucker's Secret (Turn To The Right),
covers of work from other fine songwriters such as Aaron Nathan's Fire on the Prairie, and Nancy Rost's Boscobel.

There will also be lots of newer stuff like Alan Moorhouse's We Will Walk, some new verses for You Can't Do It All It All On Your Own (which I wrote with Alan Moorhouse and Sandy Andina).

Comedy, of course will be a big part of the show. We may even have a visit from "The Lizard".

I hope that you'll join me on Nov. 10th. We're going to have one heck of a good time!!

Be well. Do good.

Subject: 10th June 2007 Fiddle Workshop - Tommy Peoples
From: GUEST,Beau Webber - KentFolk.com
Date: 13 May 07 - 02:28 PM

2pm, Sunday 10th June, 2007; Littlebourne, near Canterbury, Kent:

Tommy Peoples will hold an afternoon fiddle workshop at the excellent Littlebourne Thatched Barn , near Canterbury, Kent, CT3 1TU

Tommy Peoples is, quite simply, a living legend, the greatest exponent of the driving Donegal style which is his hallmark.   Tommy Peoples was an early member of the Bothy Band, and has recorded numerous CDs (discography: a, b). His remarkable self-produced CD " The Quiet Glen" (1998) earned him Ireland's highest accolade as "Traditional Musician of the Year", the first person to be so honored by the Irish Government. Catharine Kingcome, who has painted many Irish musicians in addition to a picture about Tommy, and is a fiddler herself, says of Tommy : "in my opinion probably the best trad Irish fiddle player there's ever been". For myself, I hear a complexity and detail in his playing that I have not heard elsewhere. In spite of this he is an intensely modest man.

Tickets: £20 01227 721 736 , 07875 170 593.   Kent Folk, G17 Canterbury Enterprise Hub, University of Kent, Canterbury, Kent. CT2 7NJ   www.kentfolk.com/tickets      Info:    www.kentfolk.com/FiddlersVarious/

Steve Knightley and Jenna will play our final folking.com @ the Farnham Maltings Spring season of shows this Wednesday 23rd May in the Great Hall at the Farnham Maltings.

Steve Knightley is the song-songwriter that front's the multitalented trio "Show of Hands" who are undoubtedly one of the UK's most popular and talented folk and acoustic artists. Easter Sunday was there penultimate concert of the year when they sold out the Royal Albert Hall. Q Magazine described Knightley as "a prolific and talented songwriter with an astounding voice, 'vast and windswept". His latest song "roots" was used by many organizations on St Georges day to celebrate Englishness and his new solo album "Cruel River" is receiving critical acclaim from many in the music industry. His material has been featured on the Bob Harris, Mike Harding and Mark Radcliff Radio 2 shows and the current solo tour with up and coming West Country singer Jenna is really gathering momentum.

Steve Knightley and Jenna will play the Great Hall at the Farnham Maltings on Wednesday the 23rd of May 2007

Tickets are priced at £12.00 and can be ordered from the Farnham Maltings box office on 01252 726234. Hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm or Saturday 10am to 2pm.

Steve and Jenna did a real belter of a performance at the Conford Village Hall on Saturday 28th April. The village hall was packed to the gunnels and we were treated to mix of new songs from Steve's excellent new album Cruel River and Jenna's hotly awaited "Barefoot & Eager". What I loved about the show is the way that the new songs were mixed in with some stripped down SOH favourites.

Here is a snippet from the "Cruel River" album review on www.folking.com….

"Steve Knightley's new album "Cruel River" is a very strong piece of work that features well crafted songs and tunes throughout. The album is balanced really well and tracks like "Tall Ship Story" & "Raining Again" ring out with the Knightley trademark Cuatro driving rhythm with "Raining Again" playing out as a sequel to "Country Life". "Poppy Day" and "All Quiet on the Western Front" are fine examples of why the likes of Bob Harris are praising Knightley's song-writing".

With the tour building momentum I'm counting the days until they both play the Farnham Maltings on Wednesday the 23rd May. The Great Hall has the capacity for you all to come and see the show (well 454 of you) so let's fill the place and give Steve and Jenna the support their brilliant new albums deserve. Full details at www.folking.com/maltings or tickets available from the Box Office on 01252 726234
