Subject: RE: Lyr Add: JOB, JOB (spiritual) From: masato sakurai Date: 02 Dec 01 - 11:26 AM Harold Courlander recorded a very long version of "Job, Job," sung by Rick Amerson and Earthy Anne Coleman. The sound recording is on Folkways FE 4472 (not heard). The text and music are in Negro Folk Music U.S.A. (Columbia UP, 1963, pp. 53-56, pp. 226-226). He comments:
A song usually known as "Job, Job" is one of the outstanding epics of the Negro religious literature. Rarely heard twice the same way because of its length, its scope, and its rich fare, the song alludes to significant scenes scattered throughout the Old and New Testaments. Whether these scenes ever appeared in a more or less chronological order is not evident, but as now heard there is no rigid sequence. (p. 52)
Another 4-stanza version ("Job, Oh Job") is in Solomon, Honey in the Rock (Mercer UP, 1991, pp. 74-75). ~Masato
