Subject: RE: 'Secular' Holiday Songs From: GUEST,PoohBear Date: 20 Nov 01 - 11:35 PM I know you said "pretty" as opposed to "humerous" but no secular Christmas selection is complete without "Deck us all with Boston Charlie". . .PB |

Subject: RE: 'Secular' Holiday Songs From: Gervase Date: 20 Nov 01 - 05:40 AM Bugger! Fair furtled that one up I'm afraid... What I meant to say was that Scowie's When All Men Sing is also a good seasonal song, with nary a mention of Christmas. |
Subject: RE: 'Secular' Holiday Songs From: Gervase Date: 20 Nov 01 - 05:37 AM There's also the Copper family's lovely Christmas song, here. Scowie's From: The_one_and_only_Dai Date: 20 Nov 01 - 04:59 AM Kaleea, you can't get less secular than the Boar's Head... check the meaning of the ecclesiastical Latin lines.. |
Subject: RE: 'Secular' Holiday Songs From: Kaleea Date: 20 Nov 01 - 12:45 AM Silver Bells is my fav secular song. There's also: Jolly Old St. Nicholas Up on the Housetop Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (a piece, not a song) The Holly & the Ivy The Hawaiian Christmas Song Home for the Holidays Christmas Chopsticks I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus Santa Claus is Comin' to Town Twas the Night Before Christmas There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays Christmas on the Moon The Twelve Days of Christmas Good King Wenceslas Patapan Over the River & Through the Woods All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth Christmas in Killarney I Don't Want A Lot for Christmas We Wish You A Merry Christmas Oh Tannenbaum (O Christmas Tree) Wassail, Wassail Here We Come A Wassailing The Boar's Head Carol Winter Wonderland White Christmas (highly watchguarded by ASCAP & the Irving Berlin family! As are most of the secular Christmas songs.) And don't forget my other fav, Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say, On a bright Hawaiian Christmas Day, That's the Island greeting that we send to you, from the land where palm trees sway. Here we know that Christmas will be green & bright, the sun will shine by day and all the stars at night. Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii's way to say "Merry Christmas" to you. |

Subject: RE: 'Secular' Holiday Songs From: Paul G. Date: 19 Nov 01 - 11:11 PM Okay -- that's a start, but I'd prefer to stay away from the comedic (Grandma Got Run Over, etc), and Rock tunes. Guess I should have been more explicit at the outset. I'm looking for "pretty" favorable to guitar accompanyment...pg |

Subject: 'Secular' Holiday Songs From: Paul G. Date: 19 Nov 01 - 09:58 PM I've been asked to put together a program of non-religious holiday songs, and have been scratching my head about it. There's "The Christmas Song" (Chestnuts roasting...), "Sleigh Ride", "Jingle Bells"...and that's about where I run out. So help me out here and let's start the Mudcat Totally Inoffensive Secular Holiday Season Song List.... Thanks! Paul |
