Subject: Lyr Add: MY BUDDY (Kahn/Donaldson) From: Tiger Date: 25 Sep 99 - 08:13 AM Jerry Jeff Walker does a nice version of this. After hearing it, I got the sheet music from Levy and put the arrangement into NoteWorthy. If anyone would like the resulting MIDI (or the NoteWorthy score) please drop me a line and I'll E-Mail it or post it on my website ............Ralph Butts (rsbassoc@neca.com)
My Buddy
Life is a book that we study,
Nights are long since you went away, I think about you all thru the day, My buddy, my buddy, No buddy quite so true.
Miss your voice, the touch of your hand,
Buddies thru all of the gay days,

Subject: Lyr Add: MY BUDDY (Gay/Moret) From: Jim Dixon Date: 05 Dec 13 - 11:55 PM Here's an earlier song with the same title, and its connection to WWI is a bit more explicit. My transcription from the sheet music at UCLA Archive of Popular Music: MY BUDDY Words by Byron Gay, music by Neil Moret San Francisco: Daniels & Wilson Inc., 1919. 1. We've been pals since we were boys, my buddy. Side by side we've seen each other through. Sympathetic, strong of heart, Comrades from the very start, But the best of friends must part, My buddy. Don't try to speak; I understand. You've done your share in No Man's Land. CHORUS: Buddy, buddy, my best pal, My buddy, buddy, buddy, Must you leave me now? Some day in a better land, I will grasp you by the hand, My buddy, buddy, good luck, goodbye, buddy. 2. Gee, it hurts to see you go, my buddy. Heavy-hearted, I will miss you so. You have always been so fair, On the level, on the square, Giving more than half your share, My buddy. They've got you, pal; gee, what I'd give To take your place and let you live! CHORUS |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: My Buddy (Kahn/Donaldson) From: PHJim Date: 06 Dec 13 - 12:08 AM I learned this song on the day that my dad died 35 years ago. My sister and I went to Waddington's Music Store on John Street in Hamilton, Ontario and bought the sheet music. I have done it as a tribute to other friends who have passed away since then, but I think of my dad when I hear or play it. |
