My Mom just told me about this, saying it's reported to be better than counting sheep, so I tried it, and she's right, you don't get below your head doing this.

If you find yourself in bed and can't sleep, take an inventory of your entire body, a piece at a time, starting at the top of your head.

Thus:

  • Hair: Is it smooth under your head? Is it falling in your face? Adjust as necessary.
  • Forehead: Unwrinkle.
  • Jaw: Unclench. Is it hanging too much? Is it allowing drooling?
... and so on. You can get to hands, are they lying the way you want, etc. But I, the Ruler Of The Sleepness Night, have yet to get below my head doing this. Anybody got a song for this?

I never have any problem on Monday. Just watch Monday Night Football. Puts me under in less than ten minutes.

I think it works better if you have someone else do the inventory, Mrrzy. **BG**

Ahhh laugh cat.

I'd love to run your inventory ANY time, day or night.

Though the hands be stone, you'd find a bone to fit just right.

The point, you guys, is to go to SLEEP. Sheesh. And yes, seroquel is a wonderful invention...

Your Inventory technique sounds kind of like a relaxation technique I know. It calls for you to tense up and then completely relax different sets of muscles in succession: feet, legs, tummy, hips, etc.

I like to run through an alphabetized Flop Eared Mule to go to sleep. I make them up on the spot. Example:

Antsy Pants

Barfy Cats

Crappy Jazz

Ditzie Blonde

Effing Fool

Fartsy Arts

.... and so forth. I am usually either dead gone by this point, or awake enough to get up and go back on Mudcat. *G*

Questions? See thread, Flop-Eared Mule.

Hmmm. Well, no matter how you do the "inventory", you do end up sleeping much better afterwards.

Voices will put me to sleep. Not someone singing, I too often get into the song.........But comedy routines that I know by heart are always a winner....maybe 15 minutes and ZAP! Or there are several movies that I like a lot but will now invariably put me to sleep. Harlem Nights is one......I barely make it through the opening craps scene, but now my copy has broken so it's a lot tougher to get to sleep. Although another recent favorite has been on a lot and many nights I can find The General's Daughter on cable somewhere. That one takes a bit longer, but it does the job.

I read myself to sleep for years but it doesn't work anymore.
