Subject: Lyr/Tune req: Bide A While From: Anglo Date: 27 Nov 01 - 11:15 PM At least I suspect that's the title, I think it's the start of the chorus anyway. It's one of those late-night singaround slow chorussy type songs that I heard over the summer, and hadn't heard before, at least not that I remembered, so I wondered about it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Tune req: Bide A While From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Nov 01 - 11:32 PM Remember any phrases from it, Anglo? With just the title, it's hard to find a song. Could it be Bide A Wee? -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Tune req: Bide A While From: Anglo Date: 27 Nov 01 - 11:45 PM Thanks Joe, but I don't think that's it. (Though it might be! For some reason I can't access the second page of the music with the chorus, but from the first page I don't think so). I heard it once, last June, and have more of a memory of the situation than of the song itself. I thought perhaps it might be well-known in singers' circles that I don't go to, so I thought I'd toss it up and see if I got any response. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Tune req: Bide A While From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 28 Nov 01 - 12:38 AM I suppose it might be Stay Awhile...? |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Tune req: Bide A While From: GUEST,JohnB Date: 28 Nov 01 - 12:52 PM The words were posted on thread some time back, I think by "Raggytash" the thread was about Tom Yates, the songs writer. Sorry about the mess, I just did a cut and paste from a Word file I made of it. Maybe the correction Fairy can correct it. I remember the chorus but not the tune to the words, ah well it was about 30 years ago I heard it .
The days full end has rounded out and ends the working light
to bide a while bide a while
Abide with us an hour to pass before you think to part
Use up the time you have to spend with kinsmen you well know
Come one come all the parting toast is raised in fond refrain JohnB |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Tune req: Bide A While From: lamarca Date: 28 Nov 01 - 01:32 PM I've heard Cliff Haslam sing this at folk gatherings with words as posted by JohnB - a truly wonderful, mellow chorus to sing along with! |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Tune req: Bide A While From: GUEST,fretless Date: 28 Nov 01 - 03:37 PM Try getting in touch with Bram Taylor he sings it and has a CD by that name, or, as some-one once called it his Bidet a Willie album. |
